The move by the Graham family to make a place for Mormonism at the ecumenical evangelical table has been notable. Not only has the designation of Mormonism as a cult been removed from the website of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, but Franklin Graham has written a column for Decision magazine bringing the faith within the ambit of Judeo-Christian acceptability:
While there are major differences in the theology of evangelical Christians and that of Mormors, as well as those who practice the Catholic faith or the Jewish faith, we do share common values that are biblically based....
The Last Time Dr. Graham got immersed in politics: "Nixon, Graham anti-Semitism on tape," _Chicago Tribune_, Mar 1, 2002, pg. 8,
Rev. Billy Graham openly voiced a belief that Jews control the American media, calling it a "stranglehold" during a 1972 conversation with President Richard Nixon, according to a tape of the Oval Office meeting released Thursday by the National Archives.
"This stranglehold has got to be broken or the country's going down the drain," the nation's best-known preacher declared as he agreed with a stream of bigoted Nixon comments about Jews and their perceived influence in American life.
"You believe that?" Nixon says after the "stranglehold" comment.
"Yes, sir," Graham says.
"Oh, boy," replies Nixon. "So do I. I can't ever say that but I believe it."
"No, but if you get elected a second time, then we might be able to do something," Graham replies.
Later, Graham mentions that he has friends in the media who are Jewish, saying they "swarm around me and are friendly to me." But, he confides to Nixon, "They don't know how I really feel about what they're doing to this country."
. . . Haldeman's diaries noted . . . "Graham has the strong feeling that the Bible says there are satanic Jews and there's where our problem arises."
Rufus, quite right no matter what Billy G. says about Roman Catholics, Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses and how likeable and relatively decent they are as individuals, the organizations they belong to, are anti-Christian. B. Graham must have been a big supporter Promise Keepers? You can download the golden oldie booklet by Gil, Promise Keepers and the Rising Tide of Ecumenism. With articles like SA has pointed out, it's about time people read the pdf file that can be found at the above site.
It disturbs me that after all this time, and all the different ways this man (Billy Graham) has been exposed to running contrary to the Christian faith, that anyone listens or cares what he thinks about Mormonism.
He and all the Evangelicals and Catholics together types can say Mormonism is Christian all they want. It will never make it so.
Jesus Christ is the only begotten son of God. The Holy Lamb who taketh away the sins of the world. Jesus Christ is the saviour of the world and can not be confused with any of the Mormon gods, unless someone has a foundation other than the Holy Bible.
"...and Jonah, bruised and beaten- his ears, like two sea shells, still multitudinously murmuring of the ocean- Jonah did the Almighty's bidding. And what was that, shipmates? To preach the Truth to the face of Falsehood ! That was it ! This, shipmates, this is that other lesson; and woe to that pilot of the living God who slights it. Woe to him whom this world charms from Gospel duty! Woe to him who seeks to pour oil upon the waters when God has brewed them into a gale ! Woe to him who seeks to please rather than appal ! Woe to him whose good name is more to him than goodness ! Woe to him who, in this world courts not dishonor ! Woe to him who would not be true, even though to be false were salvation ! Yea, woe to him who, as the great Pilot Paul has it, while preaching to others is himself a castaway!" ............."delight is to him, who gives no quarter in the truth, and kills, burns, and destroys all sin though he plucks it out from under the robes of Senators and Judges. Delight,-top-gallant delight is to him, who acknowledges no law nor lord, but the Lord his God, and is only a patriot to heaven."
Excerpts from Herman Melville's classic " Moby Dick " chapter nine, "The Sermon".
All of us need to heed the warnings of our Father against fellowship with darkness.
1Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons. 2These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead.
