Northern Ireland: protests held as first abortion clinic opens
Hundreds of anti-abortionists organised a peaceful protest outside the new Marie Stopes premises to show their opposition.
In Northern Ireland abortion is not illegal but is very tightly controlled. The procedure is only permitted if the life or mental health of the mother is at serious risk.
The new Marie Stopes facility will offer terminations up to nine weeks' gestation, each costing £450.
About 350 anti-abortion activists turned up to protest outside centre on Belfast's Great Victoria Street....
I would think that abortion rates in Ulster doesn't match the rates in the other parts of Great Britain (and I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't lower than the Republic of Ireland as well?) It is interesting that Norway, Germany, and the Netherlands have lower abortion rates than Israel (q.v., CBS: Legal abortion rate is down (informative article) ) and of course the U.S. and Great Britain. It is interesting that American rates have been declining some in the U.S., Why Have Abortion Rates Fallen? I wish the NI's the best in containing this scourge
I'm pleased to see that the Northern Irish haven't ignored this happening, even if it does bring business from the Republic of Ireland and its money. It isn't that much money.

With all these assurances this is how this wickedness was slipped into the land of Sodom & Gomorra known as england And has ended up as abortion on demand But too many people in Ulster are wide awake for this "procedure"! to have an easy ride & I trust The new Marie Stopes abortion facility will have an exceedingly short and troublesome life & will swiftly be aborted .
"Mental health" leaves a large grey area for a woman to get an abortion for any reason, it seems to me. So stating that only those who's lives are in danger or for mental health reasons really says that, no matter what, abortion is an option.
