Turkey tries pianist Fazil Say for insulting Islam

World-famous Turkish pianist Fazil Say has appeared in court in Istanbul charged with inciting hatred and insulting the values of Muslims.

He is being prosecuted over tweets he wrote mocking radical Muslims, in a case which has rekindled concern about religious influence in the country.

Mr Say, who denies the charges, said recently he was "amazed" at having to appear before judges.

Rejecting an acquittal call, the court adjourned the case until 18 February.

One should remember that Turkey will go the way of all Islamic nations, and will spiral downward since the secular brakes to Islam have been removed. Muhammad’s critics and their deaths--Why the West must protect freedom of speech, something the West has failed to do.

One will hope that Obama will change course in the Middle East, but his predecessor didn't and his supporters haven't.

Caroline Glick wrote:
Bush's democratization policy claimed that the reason the Muslim world had become a hotbed for anti-Americanism and terror was that the Muslim world was not governed by democratic regimes. As a consequence of this belief, when the anti-regime protests against the authoritarian Mubarak regime began in January 2011, the neoconservatives were outspoken supporters of the overthrow of then-president Mubarak,...
