Pennsylvania’s longest-serving senator, Arlen Specter, dies
Former senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, one of the nation’s most durable political figures who during three decades in the Senate became known for his command of constitutional law, died of cancer on Sunday at his home in Philadelphia. He was 82.
The death was confirmed by Scott Hoeflich, Sen. Specter’s former chief of staff.
First of all Mike of N.Y., one shouldn't go around pidgin-holing people. Christopher Hitchens the (in)famous atheist, had the correct view on Islam, q.v., Jefferson Versus the Muslim Pirates. Mr. Specter wasn't a liberal, wasn't a R(eactionary)INO. either. While he stopped one Romish Judge getting on the Supreme Court, Bork, he was instrumental in getting four "Conservative" Romish judges on that it. No, the true RINO doesn't evolve or flipflop--He's an Idiotlogue.
Unfortunately Mr. Specter, whatever, his principles were, also suffered from a desire for power, and not being a Christian, didn't take the following to heart.
Mark 8 36 "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37 "For what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 "For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels."---NASB
Jim Lincoln wrote: I see he was pro-choice, for shame, as a Jew, he should have known the Old Testament, Psalms 139 13 For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother's womb. 14 I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Thy works, And my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from Thee, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth. 16 Thine eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Thy book they were all written, The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.---
While he stood left of my stances, I'm sorry to see there are no moderate Republicans or Democrats left.
Of course he was pro-death, Jim. That's what liberals are. Interesting that Specter was considered a moderate, when he was a Democrat disguised as a Republican. Voting along with the two RINOs from Maine for the "stimulus" was hardly a moderate move. Switching to the radicalized Democrat Party isn't the mark of a moderate, is it? btw, why isn't that called flip-flopping? Oh yes, I forgot, he became a Democrat, and we know only Republicans flip-flop. Democrats "evolve."
President Obama said or, wrote: From his days stamping out corruption as a prosecutor in Philadelphia to his three decades of service in the Senate, Arlen was fiercely independent — never putting party or ideology ahead of the people he was chosen to serve.
