Paddling could soon be back in Marion County Schools

The idea of corporal punishment in schools may seem like something out of another era, but school officials in Marion County may bring the practice of paddling back.

Incoming school board member Carol Ely supports paddling as a form of discipline, and she may have the support to influence the school board to vote in the affirmative.

Ely was the principal at Ocala's Shady Hill Elementary for 14 years, where she administered corporal punishment. She said it worked, and she wants to bring it back. ...

That's the way it used to be in this country. My dad was a teacher and so was his dad. My Grandpa taught school in rural Illinois back in the 1920s and reported directly to the local superintendent, who ordered him to "really lay the wood on them (the students)" if they even started to misbehave.

It's interesting that Delaware is about to make spanking worth a two year prison term. Apparently spanking is ok as long as it's the State doing it.

I totally agree Mike, and I would like to add if there were more instruction like that at home we wouldn't see all the problems we have with our youth now.
I'm 53 years old. When I was in second grade i walked up a slide at recess and got a paddling. When I got home I told my folks and got another paddling. I haven't walked up a slide since then...

They'll probably find out they have another pervert among the faculty, & get sued over that. It's come to the point nowadays that no adult can be trusted alone with school-age children. That goes for churches too.
