GOP Embraces Ecumenism

The Republican National Convention has been an ecumenical event, as people laid aside religious differences in the name of backing Mitt Romney and defeating President Obama.

At this year’s convention, others have stepped up to laud Mr. Romney and his religion, weaving a unified narrative about inclusivity that seems to have bridged fears that religion might somehow divide conservative voters, particularly evangelicals who have strong theological disagreements with Mormonism.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, himself a Southern Baptist minister, mended fences during his Wednesday night convention speech after Mr. Romney’s Mormon religion was an issue in the 2008 presidential primary, when the two men were rivals. ...

Matthew 7:15. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17. Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

According to John 15, those who are not in the vine cannot produce fruit; those in the vine (Christ) can and will.

So, to me the fruit that Christ is speaking of is something that has "spiritual" significance. It could be in thought, intent or deed, but please don't ask me to document each of those.

Christ could not have been saying the gifts we give our children are fruit in the same sense as "fruit" in 15-19 otherwise the "cannot" makes no sense.

At the judgment, Christian fruit will remain, all other works will burn up.

What do U think?

A good tree can't bear bad fruit and a bad tree can't bear good fruit. But within that framework it is certainly possible for two bad trees to bear a different amount of bad fruit and vice versa. So, if someone wanted to argue they were going to vote for one or the other, then as long as they don't say one tree is good and one bad, I can understand that. But, with certainty both Romney and Obama are bad trees and neither can bear good fruit. If I don't vote for either, then I am not guilty of supporting either one.
Total depravity 101!
You might have to define what you mean by good fruit. Jesus said the evil can give good gifts. It would not be sensible to conclude he considers those good gifts as bad fruit.

Matthew 7:11
"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?"

Let me butt in because John is probably already asleep.

I am curious as to whether or not we agree on the below.

I didnt know you felt your mortal condition was waning. How are you doing my friend?
Hello Bro

Henry Martin is right, which is why I hope the Lord has still some work for me to do, or I will have to take flight ten years early.

Every day for me is like living on the edge, having two half inch inoperable aneurisms in the bonce, one each side. I have to keep my BP very low to reduce the possibility of a burst. It is common sense to do such. But at least since they were discovered and my BP lowered, I have not suffered the terrible migraines I used to get. These lasted for thirty years until I changed what I ate. Now I am much more active, although limited due to diverse other ailments.

Each day I praise God for the gift of another day.

Ah, mentality is a good word for some of those Only's. I've not come across any in this country, which is steeped in the KJV and still regularly quoted, even by the ungodly, even by newspapers when they want to caricature the Christian message.

Well, C.T. Studd I have heard about but never read so I am glad you decoded it for me. Shame on you!

Then my prayer will be that you will perform the works the Lord prepared for you from before the foundation of the world! In particular your health will be noted by me.

Now remember, I didn't mean to imply that I use the KJ, but simply that I will attempt to post using it. There are those on this board who when they see another translation, they automatically discount any statement that is made, so I am simply trying to be a caring brother. And, I really don't have anything against the KJ. The first church I attended regularly after I was saved was a very serious KJO church, so I sort of understand the mentality.

Well at least we know brother that when we are changed in the twinkling of an eye, our doctrine will all come right, and we shall know, even as we are known.
In the meantime, we shall continue to study scripture, ask the Lord for assistance, and hopefully to gain our thinking from him, and not from other men who only had the same spiritual resources we have. Unless of course our work commitments prevent an indepth study of the Bible, in which case it does no harm to read Ingleesi or Bishop Ryle, both of whom were giants in the faith.

Well Frank if you can use whatever version, and believe that it is God's word I not very much against you. Because with Jim you do not know which version he believes is God word. I have more respect for a NIVer(or any other) who honestly believe it was God's word without error, than people like Jim.

Frank, use whatever version you believe to be the inerrant and inspired word of God. And if you haven't got to the point where you can believe that ....... read up on some of the historic heroes and heroines of faith who did. It will inspire your heart, and fire you up, even brighter than you already are.
Well if you're the chief, can I be the vice-chief?
And if you think I'm wrong on something, please don't hesitate to disagree with me, even if you're wrong.

My friend, Christ prayed that we would be one and that prayer was answered the moment He uttered it.
John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
Have you noticed that I am using the KJV now so I won't offend my weaker brethren.
