Atheist to Give Opening ‘Prayer’ at Tulsa City Council Meeting

On numerous occasions, atheist activists from across America have made known their disdain for prayer at government meetings. But now, at least one non-believer is prepared to join in on public invocations. This Thursday, Dan Nerren, the non-believing founder of the Humanist Association of Tulsa, will offer up an opening prayer at the Tulsa City Council Meeting.

Nerren, who became an atheist after reading a book that purportedly exposed Biblical contradictions, is a retired railroad worker and a former Christian (he was a Southern Baptist before his conversion to non-belief). After years of atheist groups unsuccessfully petitioning to stop religious prayers at these government meetings, the city council took an intriguing step — a move to allow atheists to partake in secular invocations.

“As far as I know, I’ll be the first to offer a secular invocation,” Nerren said, according to NewsOK.com. ...

He did not convert to non-blief, he never believed in the first place. You cannot be a true, born again christian and then just throw it out. He was never saved in the first place.

Just to throw some theology into the mix.

I agree with your comment, but let me take it a step further. If someone held a gun to my head and said they would shoot if I didn't join in prayer with Romney, Obama, Ryan et al, I would not even hesitate to simply say; I refuse and the Lord's will be done".

What kind of valid prayer can be given at political secular meeting that contains people of all types of beliefs, including, e.g., Catholic? Should Roman Catholicism really be classified as a Christian religion? -- No. Perhaps the only type of prayer that could be valid at this type of meeting is, A Call to Pray for the Salvation of All.

Prayer

"Already, Wiccans, Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and Native American religious adherents have delivered remarks"

Apparently this atheist is going to pray towards man himself and his abilities.

Perhaps
"Our mortal who art on earth, you are good enough to make all decisions for the good of yourself and others" Amen!

Then take a good long look at man, history and the news to find that man screws up all the time, can be the most evil of this planets occupants, doesn't even try to maintain a decent moral position in community and cannot be trusted as far as you can throw him.

God was absolutely correct when He wrote; "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. 2 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. 3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one." Psalm 14.

One thing is for sure GOD won't be listening to any prayers from the idolatrous and blasphemous Tulsa City Council.

This is ridiculous. What kind of a "Prayer" could an atheist possibly state? It might be a prayer to Satan since atheists have Satan as their god anyway.
