'Pray for Obama' sign stirs controversy over Biblical verse
The Secret Service is looking into a sign posted in Victoria, Texas.
The sign says "Pray for Obama", but it's the scripture quoted below those words that is raising eyebrows: Psalms 109:8.
Psalms 109:8 reads, "Let his days be few, and let another take his office."
Milton Neitsch Jr., who has lived in Victoria since 1961, says he didn't intend for people to pick up on the hateful wishes of death and pain surrounding the tiny verse.
Whomever is the president of this country deserves our respect and prayers, even if he wasn't our choice. As Christians, aren't we to show love and not question the leadership of those in authority: such as the president?
Actually, Psalm 109 in it's entirety, should be read from the pulpits every Sunday, up to election day. There are many other Psalms that could easily apply to the current situation.
That verse fits my feelings on Obama perfectly. I hope that he lives a long and happy retired life beginning in January 2013. However, the secret service does have an obligation to look into the situation to make sure there is no physical threat being made against the president.
edited to add..in the context of verse 9...well, I don't feel that way about ol' Barry. I want him to have a nice, long happy retirement.
Psalm 109:8 is appropriate in relation to Obama because Obama's days as president need to be few and another man take his place as president. Why should the Secret Service be investigating that sign?
