Brazil allows three-person civil unions

Three people in a polygamous relationship have been allowed to enter into a civil union in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.

The decision has sparked controversy in Brazil. Campaigners in the UK say that tampering with the definition of marriage would pave the way for such unions here.

The Brazilian trio, one man and two women, have been living together for three years.

This is the natural outcome of redefining marriage. Why would the government of Brazil wish to go against the teachings of the Catholic Church which states that polygamy and homosexuality is wrong? Brazil is mostly a Catholic country. So it does not make sense why the government of Brazil would pass a law permitting polygamy when it is against Catholic teaching.
