Genetically Engineered Babies Are Moral Duty, “Ethics” Guru Claims

Prominent so-called “ethicist” and Oxford University Professor Julian Savulescu claims that humanity has a “moral obligation” to genetically engineer children — essentially creating “designer babies” — to make them into better people, sparking an outcry among critics who claim such morally repugnant practices would be akin to playing God. Embryos that do not qualify for life in his view, such as those whose genetic make-up is perceived to indicate potential future “personality flaws,” would presumably be destroyed.
Savulescu wrapped his argument in pseudo-compassionate language, claiming he simply wanted the best for children, parents, society, and the human race. Plus, he argued, some people already screen their future children for diseases before deciding whether or not to abort them, so using DNA and bio-technology to enhance people’s personality traits is not actually a very big leap....

hard facts, au contraire, I was not speaking of such theories, but rather explaining that the evangelical church is very much at peace with mainstream science. You may be reading into things a little too much, good day.

folks -- this is not just liberalism. nice try. evolution is the basis for modern medicine and the justification for modern science. ask any atheist doctor and they'll be proud to tell you this was the basis of their medical school.

Yes we have test too check our children too see if they have Downs but not all people would abort a child if they found out.....Some look into the Furture of that baby and lurn as much as they can too help that child out!!! I think in the long run if you play God it will blow up in your face!!!

Isn't. Mr Savulescu so smart, kind and full of compassion. Why he should be God! Why didn't the Almighty think of designer children..............Now all Savulescu has to do is find a way to make these designer kids without a sin nature!
