In the newest issue of the quarterly magazine, Cathedral Age, both candidates say their faith in God sustains and guides them, that faith has a role to play in the American public square, and that service to others -- motivated by faith -- is one of the great contributions of religious groups to the life of the nation.
Despite numerous times that Obama has spoken of his committed Christian faith, some Americans still doubt his religion or, incorrectly, view him as a Muslim.
And Romney, a former bishop in his Mormon church, used the questions to reiterate his Christian faith in Jesus -- just in case any conservative evangelicals are still thrown off by the very different understanding of the Trinity that Mormons hold....
(NIV)Matthew 7:13-14 ââŹĹEnter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. (NIV)Matthew 7:15 ââŹĹWatch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheepââŹâ˘s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
"I am a Christian.... I believe that there are many paths to the same place.... I am a great admirer of our founding charter... and its resolve to prevent disruptive strains of fundamentalism from taking root in this country.... I think Gandhi is a great example of a profoundly spiritual man who... never slipped into intolerance or dogma." Quote from Obama!
Here is what pluralism really means. If someone says that faith in Christ is essential for their individual salvation but not necessarily for someone elseâs then they have logically said it wasnât essential for them, but was simply a matter of personal choice.
I heard someone ask Obama if Jesus was the only way to heaven and Obama simply said, "for me he is". Most politician will say this when pushed.
How can anyone say that the Mormon religion is christianiy? As a christian I believe in one God who is Lord of all creation. The Mormon believs that there are many gods who are lord of there worlds. As a christian I believe that Jesus christ is God co-equal with God the father and God the Holy Spirit united in such a way as to be one God. The Mormon believes that Jesus and Satan are brothers. With these differences both can not be chrisianity. As for Pesident Obama his views on abortion and homosexual marriage put him outside of what a christian must believe.
"Despite numerous times that Obama has spoken of his committed Christian faith" I wonder what they've been smoking? Numerous? Unless they count all the times he disavowed his following Jeremiah Wright. Even if he did claim to be Christian, his actions speak far louder than his words.
