Over 100 Million Now Receiving Federal Welfare

A new chart set to be released later today by the Republican side of the Senate Budget Committee details a startling statistic: "Over 100 Million People in U.S. Now Receiving Some Form Of Federal Welfare."

"The federal government administers nearly 80 different overlapping federal means-tested welfare programs," the Senate Budget Committee notes. However, the committee states, the figures used in the chart do not include those who are only benefiting from Social Security and/or Medicare.

Food stamps and Medicaid make up a large--and growing--chunk of the more than 100 million recipients. "Among the major means tested welfare programs, since 2000 Medicaid has increased from 34 million people to 54 million in 2011 and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, or food stamps) from 17 million to 45 million in 2011," says the Senate Budget Committee. "Spending on food stamps alone is ...

Welfare State Grows by Nearly 19% Under OBAMA – to Almost $1 Trillion a Year

Those days of 4-5% unemployment under Bush, and the 52 months of economic growth at a nearly 3% (far better than current economic growth) sure were terrible. Gas prices under $2 a gallon was just such a disaster. Thankfully we are better off today than under that evil Bush guy.

No Tommy I think you are wrong. No where in the scriptures will you find the responsibility of the church to provide welfare. We are called to care for our brothers and sisters, but never the world in general. Jesus even said that the poor we would always have.

jpw, floridation? toxic? Sometimes.
Wikipedia wrote:
Water fluoridation is the controlled addition of fluoride to a public water supply to reduce tooth decay. Fluoridated water has fluoride at a level that is effective for preventing cavities; this can occur naturally or by adding fluoride.[2] Fluoridated water operates on tooth surfaces: in the mouth it creates low levels of fluoride in saliva, which reduces the rate at which tooth enamel demineralizes and increases the rate at which it remineralizes in the early stages of cavities.[3] Typically a fluoridated compound is added to drinking water, a process that in the U.S. costs an average of about $1 per person-year.[2][4] Defluoridation is needed when the naturally occurring fluoride level exceeds recommended limits.[5] A 1994 World Health Organization expert committee suggested a level of fluoride from 0.5 to 1.0 mg/L (milligrams per litre), depending on climate.[6] Bottled water typically has unknown fluoride levels, and some domestic water filters remove some or all fluoride....

CsH -- are you able to differentiate between a toxic metal and an essential mineral?

looks to me like western man is not getting their essential minerals (attrition of soil and foods) but getting an abundance of toxic metals from industrial waste (that would otherwise have to be stored as hazardous waste).

You would want to see essential minerals in your food and water and toxic pollutants out of food and water. See the difference?

let's share a glass of ice water and debate which president is to blame for our lowered IQ's and refusal to work the land for the food we need.
and by all means, let us do keep sending all our money away from our hurting communitites because america is so special and all that programming.
Fluoride is naturally occurring in many water sources. The recent study based on results in China is not very strong, in most cases there are pollutants as well that are known to be problematic. The authors say that even with the all the data the IQ 'drop' is half of one point.

Fluoride is NOT the main ingriedient in rat poison - the element fluorine is found in a few of the less common poisons, but that's like being worried about charcoal since most poisons contain carbon.

Although that many people are on Welfare for various reasons we as a church lack so the government has to do it,also we give more money to other countries that hate our guts and would murder us, but we complain about walfare and im just say in general, not in response to pastor Harris whom i admire greatly, but just addressing the fact that we don't mind 10 times more money the government gives to our enemys

What you should have asked, jpw, is how I child's future IQ and health are lowered by the lack of proper nutrition.

Too bad the policies of the president of Baby Bush with such an economic disaster for so many people. Unfortunately, wants to carry on those businesses usual and don't want to install the proper reforms. ‘Evil’ lobbyist Jack Abramoff talk US politics (short YouTube) the Republican choice for VP, is no friend to Social Security either--Paul Ryan, AARP In Spat Over Medicare Plan.

I wonder how that compares to the 16 trillion dollar welfare that went out to the private bankers.....

also wonder how this relates to the Harvard University study which shows that IQ of children in more flouridated areas is significantly lower than children in less.

maybe its not just the public schools that dumbed us down.
