U.S. gold medalist Gabby Douglas: 'glory goes' to God
Gabby Douglas will soon have more money than she ever dreamed.
With a vibrant smile and two gold medals to her credit at the Olympics, the 16-year-old gymnast undoubtedly will cash in with endorsement and marketing deals worth millions of dollars. At the top of her wish list? An Acura NSX.
The fame and fortune that Douglas instantly captured may make some things easier, but they won't remove the difficulties from her life. When she faces such struggles, she turns to Scripture.
"God has given me this awesome talent to represent Him. Glory goes up to Him, and the blessings fall down on us," Douglas said Aug. 5 in a press conference at the North Greenwich Arena....
Ah, JS, you'll have to rent the movie! I forgot to mention, in fact in didn't even occur to me at the time (Shame on me, for my failing memory) that Miss Felix who won three gold medals in track, also has a very Christian father. In fact he spoke at Indian Hills Community Church before, he's an excellent speaker and I might add a professor at Master's Seminary. You can go to the above site look on the right hand side and listen and see him live at 10:30 a.m., and 6:30 p.m., CDST tomorrow. So if your church services allow it; give him a listen. Amazing that I just happen to turn on the Olympics and the only time I did so, and it was his daughter I saw running a race. Unfortunately equally amazing I didn't connect the father and daughter, since he did mention his daughter was a runner the last time he spoke at IHCC.
Just so a lot of visitors won't be disappointed I doubt if his daughter will be at IHCC tomorrow, she was the last the couple of times he has been in Lincoln.
You must have looked at the movie,Chariots of Fire, which gave a good rendition of the actions of Eric Liddell in the 1924 Paris Olympics. Yes, it was a great Christian who unfortunately didn't understand about the Sabbath, Legalism is Shadow, Christ is Substance. In any event, a fine gentleman he was.
I'm also have a thing for where she wants to use the money. And did she win those medals on a Sunday morning. I believe that other Olympic player who went to church when one of the races was on a Sunday morning, and died on the mission field would not be very happy with that, he would glad with her giving God the glory, but the fact remains. But even with this I'd glad she gave God the glory.

I would say the eyes are quite a bit like the mouth. So, yes, would I like to see more discrete attire--yes. But, I'm not going to make a really big issue of it. Perhaps another event like the Olympics could be held with more suitable attire?
1. Jim, it's not far off getting back to that, and I think it does nobody any good, except money grubbers.
2. True, there is no stopping it, no matter how big an issue anyone makes of it. Only the Lord can bring such a fear into the heart of man that he will cease from his sinful ways. But if I was President, I would boycott the Olympics and save the poor taxpayer a whole lot of dosh. For eight years, the British taxpayer has funded a new build for the 2012 O's while our small businesses have been going under and the big corporations have made a mint out of it. Yuk!
John UK, hmm, I put a comment about the ancient Olympics on the other Olympic thread on SA, so I won't repeat that. I would point out, however,
Matthew 15 17 "Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? 18 "But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. 19 "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. 20 "These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man."---NASB
I would say the eyes are quite a bit like the mouth. So, yes, would I like to see more discrete attire--yes. But, I'm not going to make a really big issue of it. Perhaps another event like the Olympics could be held with more suitable attire?

Divorce is terribly painful and it is good to have the compassionate side of God relative to this young lady. There is another side of God though that desires his children to be clothed. Ms. Douglas would be low on my list of folks to be critical of for she is but a child. That daddy with the girlfriend who would let billions of people see his daughter's nakedness, he would be a bit higher on the list.
However, someone needs to stand up and say Lolo, Tebow, Gaby it's swell that you are believers in Christ but please start following him and stop teaching his children that it's cool to be a Christian and be naked.
On your flips concern...if a lady can not do something modestly, then perhaps that lady ought not do that something.

Jim Lincoln wrote: Gabby, had the fig leaves in the proper places, so she was properly attired. ...
You say she was properly attired and by extension you are suggesting Adam and Eve were likewise properly attired. Yet, God saw fit to shed blood in order to clothe them.
"21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them." - Genesis 3:21
Now, gentlemen, enlighten yourselves with the above articles! should more modesty be used in athletic uniforms, I will say yes to that. This is not an overly bad article,

Ah yes Rufus......it is regretable.
Saudi Arabia permitted a woman athlete for the first time in the athletics, providing she was dressed appropriately and modestly. It was most refreshing to see her fully covered apart from her face, a testimony to the world. And a reminder of puritanical Victorian attitudes in the UK. What a shame that the devil is able to use professing Christians to convince easterners that they have the correct religion.
Ecumenists will have a lot to answer for in that great day of the Lord, when they realise that their gospel was a sham, that eternal torment is real, and that the gospel includes repentance of sin and seeking never to cause anyone else to sin (the millstone doctrine).

Why should we be thankful? Is it helpful to the cause of Christ that Christian women dress and behave no differently than those that are not of Christ?
