‘Totalitarian’ backlash for voting against gay marriage

A Christian councillor from the Green Party who refused to toe the line on redefining marriage is facing an internal inquiry described by one critic as the “worst kind of totalitarian politics”.

Christina Summers was the only elected member on Brighton and Hove City Council not to vote in favour of lobbying the Government over the issue.

Following her move, an internal party inquiry has been set up – and Cllr Summers has also been subjected to abusive emails from outside the council.

“Whenever, I or any Christian touches on issues of life or identity it does elicit a very, very violent response with very strong accusatory language.” ...

Ok Steve, but don't forget that Satan will place his commandoes in the pulpits and pews. We must make decisions of people based upon the doctrines of Scripture.

Remember what Jesus Himself taught...
Matt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
These folks would have seemed to be strong Christians - But Jesus saw through them and rejects them.
We don't have the abilities of Christ therefore we must judge based on Scripture and follow its lead.

As Peter warns us...
2Pet2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction."

Because this issue is the one that is being raised. As an aside, Christ is my Lord and Savior, therefore my goal is to never ignore any of His word.

Everyone draws a line and it would appear that my line is different than yours. Your "key" word is balance. I don't believe in what is normally called the greater good concept. Romans 3:8 And why not say (as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), “Let us do evil that good may come”? Their condemnation is just.

Anyway, thanks for your follow up comment.

Christina Summers is a Christian who explains that she strongly supports gay rights and the introduction of civil partnerships but could not back the change to marriage laws on religious grounds.
Under the US Constitution, just about all of the crimes against God in the Mosiac Law have been legalized. Why do we(Christians) just decide to fight on this issue and leave out so many others like the 1st 4 Commandments?

Believe me when I say I dont support what Christina is doing, but I dont think that removes her from the household of faith. I think she is trying to balance the laws of the Magistrate with Gods Law. She is willing to give up what she thinks the Constitution guarantees in order to maintain a Biblical defintion of Marriage. Sure its a mistake, but havent we all made them?

IMO: Its WE(Christians) that turned marriage into a social contract with so many loop holes and benefits ignoring all the responsibilities that has led to the wicked desiring it

Frank, the "Telegraph" says....
Telegraph wrote:
"Miss Summers, 50, a devout Christian, says that she strongly supports gay rights and the introduction of civil partnerships could not back the change to marriage laws on religious grounds.
She argued that equality did not require changing the traditional definition of marriage and told colleagues it was a matter of “freedom of speech” for her in a party which does not applying a whipping system in the council in votes on matters of conscience.
But following her speech, fellow Green councillors voted to launch an “official inquiry process” into her stance, accusing her of bringing the party into disrepute."
I'm sure that the "Telegraph" knows better than the Word of God or a Bible believing Christian that this lady is a quote "devout Christian"???

How dare she bring the Green Party into disrepute by suggesting they use traditional moral standards, or worse still God's Word in their deliberations.

But these are the kind of Liberals who call themselves Christian and probably belong to the national churches - CofE/CofS.
Which of course proves that Britain no longer has a "Christian" national church.
Only a Liberal abomination!!

Most of us would agree that someone isn’t half born again or half in Christ. They either belong to Satan or they belong to our Lord and Savior. Now unless someone can show how a genuine Christian can publicly support gay rights and civil unions, then we should be very careful holding this lady up as any type of Christian standard. Satan acts like an angel of light and there is nothing better than when a tare is thought of as wheat. If we recognize our enemies, then they will be less apt to harm us. Saying this lady is a Christian and somehow should be held up for her Christian values is the same as saying Nancy Pelosi or Glenn Beck should be held up for some moral position they are taking. Why didn’t she simply
say, “homosexuality is an abomination in God’s eyes and marriage is a picture of Christ and His church; therefore I strongly condemn gay marriage”? And, I wonder why I don’t hear that on Fox News either. 

"She commented: “Trying to coerce people into being loyal to the party above being loyal to their individual conscience calls to mind the worst kind of totalitarian politics.”"

The Green Party is mainline Lefty and Liberal to the core. So trying to introduce Christian values and morals into their discussions would automatically cause an earthquake.

To do this in connection with Liberals most valued and defended 'golden calf' is to incur the wrath of Liberalism.
