The U.S. appears headed for its worst year for whooping cough in more than five decades, with the number of cases rising at an epidemic rate that experts say may reflect a problem with the effectiveness of the vaccine.
Nearly 18,000 cases have been reported so far — more than twice the number seen at this point last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday. At this pace, the number for the entire year will be the highest since 1959, when 40,000 illnesses were reported.
Nine children have died, and health officials called on adults — especially pregnant women and those who spend time around children — to get a booster shot as soon as possible....
For some diseases booster shots are needed, have you gotten yours for tuberculosis?
I would also suggest you look over the article from USA Today, which probably says much the same thing as the Houston Chronicle one, Whooping cough could reach highest levels since 1959. It's really about adults and especially pregnant women getting their pertussis shots. This is a case of of germy adults infecting children.
The article quoted as follows: "My biggest concern is for the babies. They're the ones who get hit the hardest," said Mary Selecky, chief of the health department in Washington, one of the states with the biggest outbreaks.
Now I'm not trying to be a negative person and I pray for everyone that is sick with this terrible disease. My questions is this, if the stinking shots that they load kids down with from birth on are soooo miraculous than why oh why is there an epidemic and why is this woman so worried about the babies? I feel we give our children far too many shots with out ANY consideration of the side effects (autism). Please do not get me wrong, i'm sure some of the shots are good. I feel that there are too many and they are too aggressive.
