The instructor of a college course that taught top military officers the United States was at war with Islam has been relieved of teaching duties and the course ordered redesigned to reflect U.S. policy, a military spokesman said on Wednesday.
The elective course at the National Defense University's Joint Forces Staff College included a slide that asserted "the United States is at war with Islam and we ought to just recognize that we are war with Islam," Pentagon officials said in April as they launched a review of the course.
Colonel David Lapan, a spokesman for the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said on Wednesday a review of the course found that "institutional failures and in oversight and judgment" led to the course being modified over time in a way "that portrayed Islam almost entirely in a negative way."...

I'm surprised at you, jp. Haven't you heard? We don't fight Islam, we fight terrorism and other stuff!

They keep you safe day and night from the terrorists in the world. Whilst you sit at home doing nothing the military are out there giving their all against the enemies of America.
Your Leader said "This responsibility is only magnified in an era when an extremist ideology threatens our people, and technology gives a handful of terrorists the potential to do us great harm. We are less than eight years removed from the deadliest attack on American soil in our history. We know that al Qaeda is actively planning to attack us again. We know that this threat will be with us for a long time, and that we must use all elements of our power to defeat it.
From Europe to the Pacific, we have been a nation that has shut down torture chambers and replaced tyranny with the rule of law. That is who we are. And where terrorists offer only the injustice of disorder and destruction, America must demonstrate that our values and institutions are more resilient than a hateful ideology" (Barack Obama)
Without this kind of courageous rhetoric where would America be.
Yes, jpw, the oil wars are just a modern update of the Banana_Wars, also carried out by Republican administrations.
Since we didn't protect Christians in these countries, e.g., Iraq's war on Christians, we really do have the problem of The forgotten Christians of the East. Even if many are just nominal Christians America does have the history of supporting it's own 1st amendement to our Constitution when we were in world wars.
If this was war college the instructor probably was an officer, who should have quickly handed out copies of the "Inadequacy of Islam" before he was silenced.
What on earth does the military have to do with this? Its a misdirection of concern. They just follow orders.
But I do find it funny that they have to have long debates trying to figure out how to frame it in a way that makes it sound legit and not hateful. One difficult task. Since this is perpetual, I imagine the story can be tweaked every few years, as it has been. That kind of makes my point.

All correct jp, but even if you take it to those who can change things, they will not listen because of their agenda. You can take the message to the populace, and perhaps gain a hundred adherents, but this is a spiritually discerned scenario, and the majority will see you as just another pacifist. The American public, and even the British, are brought up on a diet of just warmongering, complete with its march music and triumphalism, swaying the public conception of right and wrong, and producing zombies who think not.
I know it hasn't really hit the advanced minds of the american church...

Do you all not see you are being played by the media because of your huge political voting block? Your ethicists will meet with the presidents and tell them how your bible says that God will bless them if they fight in all these adventures... Religion is the storyline by which this global movement is being fought. Your current leader is a Muslem and the new systems outside of traditional law have been created by those of dual citizenship. Your previous one had a wife who was a "good conservative" just like you, but soon after leaving office declared herself to be prochoice. Played like a fiddle!
"Discovery of the course material embarrassed the military at a time when U.S. officials were trying to mend U.S. ties with the Muslim world following a spate of incidents in Afghanistan, including the burning of copies of the Koran"
Another exercise for the military on political correctness.
Don't tell the truth, tell the policy!!
The bureaucrats are trying to be nice to everybody including the terrorists, probably from the point of view of cost cutting the extent of military involvement on foreign soil. The defence budget has become too expensive in modern technological warfare, therefore adjust your foreign policy accordingly.
I wonder what the future will be like? Is it going to be too expensive for modern man to live on the planet?
"That's not at all what we believe to be the case. We're at war against terrorism, specifically al Qaeda, who has a warped view of the Islamic faith," Kirby said.
This is what is wrong with our understanding of Islam. It's not al Qaeda that has the warped view, it's us. The radicals are simply the ones actually following their religion. The captain who was removed should get a medal for his intestinal fortitude.
