Four months ago, two African-American pastors stood in a hallway of the Southern Baptist Convention's Nashville headquarters looking at a row of white faces.
The portraits of the 56 convention presidents since the denomination's 1845 founding are in large picture frames holding several portraits each. The final frame holds empty slots.
"They got a space for Fred, right there," one of the men said. "Got a space picked out for him."
"Fred" is the Rev. Fred Luter Jr., the man poised to become the first African American president of the nation's largest Protestant denomination when convention delegates vote next week in New Orleans....

The man you refer to has a good reputation now in many circles and if God grants that it increases greatly along with fame, the pressure on him will be tremendous.
The current President of the United States is probably the most blasphemous President in the entire history of the United States in terms of public statements about God, the three Persons of the Trinity, the Word of God, Paul the Apostle, and "holy men of God".
Will God eventually call the man you refer to take a public strong stand against President Obama and his policies? And if God does make the call, what will the man do about it?
Hopefully it won't be something like Jonah, who in essence said "see you later God; I have had enough of this; I'm out of here".
As an African American, that sounds nice that this Luter may be the first. BUT my main concern is that he follows the teachings of Christ. The article described his preaching as electrifying. I don't care about that. What I care about is if he is a godly leader and do what is right according to the scriptures--to denounce homosexuality, abortion, racism, to name a few. This is what is important in a godly leader--not his race.

This is a 150 year old crime. If you were to do this to your children, they would lock you up and throw away the key. How could a criminal pro-slave church ever become the largest Protestant denomination? This is like a pro-abortion denomination growing head and shoulders above all others.
The SBC hasn't endorsed slavery in over a hundred years and, if I remember correctly, apologized for holding to that view.

Why would anyone in good conscience support reparationist racists?

CAH Politely. Get over it. I am a Yankee, my ancestors fought against people of my own skin tone, to see people with a darker skin tone set free. What do you think those of slavery ancestors own me for what my kin did for them?
Oh! You probably never thought about that.
Another, I was raise Roman Catholic (a very false damnable counterfeit version of Christianity) and was saved during the time I was attending a large Southern Baptist Church in Tennessee and I would think that there are several others who God used the SBC in bringing them to salvation.
What kind of debt do we owe them?
BTW I have visited Pastor Luter's church and it doesn't seem they are suffering because of poverty.
