LCMS, Anglicans Affirm Common Beliefs; Mull Fighting Homosexuality, Abortion Together
The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and the Anglican Church in North America affirmed core teachings of the Christian faith they share and expressed hope to jointly fight some key social challenges, including homosexuality, abortion and secularism, after concluding the first round of theological discussions.
The cooperation between the two denominations is a reason for joy at a time when "there is a widespread failure to recognize the biblical teaching regarding the creation of man and woman and their biblical roles, life-issues, and other grave challenges that society faces," LCMS President the Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison said in a statement Friday as the two bodies released a joint report summarizing the areas of agreement....
Gil Rugh said or, wrote: The message of spiritual salvation and social rescue gets joined together by many in their outreach efforts. Outreach by the Church, as mandated by Jesus Christ, is clearly outlined. It is to be centered around making disciples by going out into the world to proclaim the message of His death, burial, and resurrection. There is no instruction in His great commission for Christians to be involved in social action or changing people's physical circumstances as part of their evangelism.
There are also guidelines given in the Scriptures for individual believers and their interaction with believers and unbelievers in their daily lives.
summary for the sermon, The Church's Responsibility to Society These churches are acting like Mainliners, when they substitute social action for what a church is suppose to be doing. (Oh and I expected better out of the MS Lutherans!)
""We oppose efforts within society or by some churches to view other sexual relationships as moral alternatives to heterosexual marriage"
Opposition to the way society and Liberal churches are going is good and by the grace of God, may have a good effect within the nation. There is no doubt that the struggle is on over the acceptance of iniquity especially sodomy and the hearts and minds of western nations today. Therefore true Biblical churches must witness loud and clear what Holy Writ and God declares as law.
