Vatican Outlines Virgin Mary Sighting Rules
The Vatican has published rules to evaluate the authenticity of the dozens of apparitions of the Virgin Mary reported each year.

The ‚ÄúNorms Regarding the Manner of Proceeding in the Discernment of Presumed Apparitions or Revelations‚ÄĚ have been in use since 1978, but until now had been available only in Latin, never officially published and only circulated among bishops and specialists.

The Vatican document has now been translated into English and other languages to aid bishops in the ‚Äúdifficult task of discerning presumed apparitions, revelations, messages or ... extraordinary phenomena of presumed supernatural origin,‚ÄĚ Cardinal William Levada, the head of the Vatican doctrinal office, wrote in a companion letter last December that was published only recently on the Vatican website. ...

Great posts forjesuit and moreforjim, unfortunately Jesuit Jim is a closed book.

In regards to Erasmus he did not challenge the church directly like Luther but rather believed in transformation from within. However no single work has had more impact on the reformation as the Greek/Latin text of Erasmus.
In regards to his being compared with wescott and/or Hort for scholarship and translation. It would be like comparing a college professor with a 5th grader. You just don't know the facts. Erasmus was considered the Einstein of his day. Perhaps it's because you got your info from Haper Collins who own the writes to the NIV. Oh and they also publish the satanic bible by Anton levy. You ought to see all the things Harper publishes for yourself...then again a good Jesuit like you knows and will simply redirect.

Westcott and Hort?!

BTW Jim, if you want to, why not do your own compilation greek manuscript, making use of all the available mss, except the one found in the Vatican Library which is evidently Catholic. Then have your compilation translated into English, and what do you have? A KJV in modern English!

Satisfied?

No, of course not! Your arguments are but a smokescreen to hide your agenda. Why not tell us all about it, eh? Repentance is good for the soul; so be not deceived.

Ah Jim
Now we can see where you got the idea that the Word of God is not infallible.

Westcott and Hort.
on The Scriptures:

"I reject the word infallibility of Holy Scriptures overwhelmingly." (Westcott, The Life and Letters of Brook Foss Westcott, Vol. I, p.207).

"Our Bible as well as our Faith is a mere compromise." (Westcott, On the Canon of the New Testament, p. vii).

"Evangelicals seem to me perverted. . .There are, I fear, still more serious differences between us on the subject of authority, especially the authority of the Bible." (Hort, The Life and Letters of Fenton John Anthony Hort, Vol. I, p.400)

And on The Deity of Christ:

"He never speaks of Himself directly as God, but the aim of His revelation was to lead men to see God in Him." (Westcott, The Gospel According to St. John, p. 297).

"(John) does not expressly affirm the identification of the Word with Jesus Christ." (Westcott, Ibid., p. 16).

"(Rev. 3:15) might no doubt bear the Arian meaning, the first thing created." (Hort, Revelation, p.36)"

Jim you are confirmed in the brotherhood of these two Anglican Liberals.

Ho-hum, Westcott and Hort were better Christians than Erasmus ever was, and better translators too.
Rick Norris wrote:
The HarperCollins Dictionary of Religion stated that Erasmus "remained a staunch Catholic and Augustinian priest" (p. 341). V. Green wrote that Erasmus "did not criticize the doctrine of the Church, its sacraments, its priesthood or its hierarchy" (Luther and the Reformation, p. 141). John Faulkner mentioned where Erasmus affirmed: "But one should not determine for himself to doctrine, but let the Catholic Church speak, to whose judgment I submit everything" (Erasmus, p. 177). Bainton cited Erasmus as writing in a letter to Hutten the following: "Where have I ever condemned the canon law and the decretals of the popes?" (Erasmus of Christendom, p. 177). Quotations could also be given where Erasmus defended the Roman Catholic Church as the only true Church and even defended many of its practices, including the Mass, prayers to saints, and the Confessional.

Yes you are Jim.

Quote;
"Westcott and Hort were responsible for the greatest feat in textual criticism. They were responsible for replacing the Universal Text of the Authorized Version with the Local Text of Egypt and the Roman Catholic Church. Both Westcott and Hort were known to have resented the pre-eminence given to the Authorized Version and its underlying Greek Text. They had been deceived into believing that the Roman Catholic manuscripts, Vaticanus and Aleph, were better because they were older. This they believed, even though Hort admitted that the Antiochian or Universal Text was equal in antiquity"

Quote;
"Brooke Foss Westcott (1825-1901) and Fenton John Anthony Hort (1828-1892) produced a Greek New Testament in 1881 based on the findings of Tischendorf. This Greek NT was the basis for the Revised Version of that same year. They also developed a theory of textual criticism which underlay their Greek NT and several other Greek NT since (such as the Nestle's text and the United Bible Society's text). Greek New Testaments such as these produced the modern English translations of the Bible we have today"

O.J., I'm not the one reading a Roman Catholic Bible, which has it's problems --at least the AV-- separated out the the Apocrypha from the rest of the Bible, the typical Catholic Bible won't. but the AV, The Truth About KJV Only: The Mormon,Ecumenical,Homosexual, and Neo-Nazi Agendas. It's a pity that the Messianic Jew who wrote the above didn't point out the atheist agenda, they love the AV, because of the Indisputable, universally recognized errors in the KJV, let alone what Dawkins thinks of it for strengthening his case, but in his case the AV doesn't.

James you really have to stop listening to the propaganda that make Westcott & Hort: Victims of KJV-Only Smear Campaign. The Catholic Church loves Erasmus, as one can see from this article from their site, Desiderius Erasmus [A great Anglican?] . It is quite obvious that the answer is yes to Is the King James Version a ‚ÄėRoman Catholic Bible‚Äô?. You don't have an authorized KJV unless it has The Apocrypha, the marginal notes, (by the way, 1611 marginal notes devastating!!! ), and the full preface included in it. (which also points out the nonsense of KJVonlyism, The Preface to the King James Version And the King James Only position ).

So, James, enlighten yourself about your Catholic Bible.

A catholic Bible are you serious or did you learn that in your Jesuit training. The catholic church HATES the Erasmus text as you well know, they even hired Guy Fox to blow up the King Parliment and the translators in an effort to stop it from coming to pass.
It's in the council of Trent the venom and clear determination to undermine, discredit and ultimately replace the Erasmus text which produced Luther's bible, Tyndale's NT, the Geneva bible and yes the KJV.
The heart and success of the reformation was due to this text and everywhere it has gone God has blessed with Reformation and Revival.
Wescott and Hort agents for Rome replaced the Erasmus text in the RV and that corrupt, mutilated text became the fountainhead of all modern versions.
So no Jim your Bible is the one that is Catholic.

Good common sense John Y., as Dr. Wallace pointed out, Why I Do Not Think the King James Bible Is the Best Translation Available Today. If the English language hadn't changed, Restating The Obvious About Bible Translations if the AV, had been accurate, Part III: From the KJV to the RV (from Elegance to Accuracy), I would have no trouble with the AV. I don't have anyone using the AV for personal worship, the only problem anyone should have with it when some attempt to make it into a talisman. But John, you should have trouble with The Roman Catholic Bible as well with the Romish Church itself, Is A Catholic Christian An Oxymoron?--unfortunately you keep rejecting the right answer to that question.

That might just be the case that Jim Lincoln saw an apparition of the Virgin Mary in his bathtub telling him to do whatever he could to destroy and discredit the KJV. Why else would Jim L do whatever he can to destroy and discredit the KJV?

You mock what you do not understand.
1Jn 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
1Jn 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
1Jn 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

I have never read where the person seeing the apparition followed this instruction. As a result - they are deceived.

The sightings are not Mary they are spirits. The so called Mary sightings are there as a mockery. The message "Mary" brings never gives 100% focus on Jesus Christ. We are to test all spirits.

I suspect you worship "dumb idols" too!

Hab 2:18 What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols? 19 Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.

Ex 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth

Isa 44:17 And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god. 18 They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

This is what I believe John Y.

Especially since some of the "apparitions" of Mary are claiming to be co-redeemer with Christ, making "itself" to be equal with God. Definitely satanic, and definitely a demon claiming to be Mary.

What are the messages of this "queen of heaven"?

"But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. (Galatians 1:8 ESV)"

You know this type of thing happens to make Catholicism have a lot in common with both Mormonism and Islam. All three receive another gospel from angelic beings. Go figure!
