Methodists uphold policy that calls homosexuality ‘incompatible with Christian teaching’

Despite emotional protests and fierce lobbying from gay rights groups, United Methodists voted on Thursday (May 2) to maintain their denomination’s stance that the practice of homosexuality is “incompatible with Christian teaching.”

Two “agree to disagree” proposals were soundly defeated during separate votes by the nearly 1,000 delegates gathered for the United Methodist Church’s General Conference in Tampa, Fla.

One proposal would have replaced the "incompatible" phrase in the Book of Discipline, which contains the denomination's laws and doctrines. Both proposals sought to soften the disputed doctrine by adding more ambiguous statements about homosexuality. ...

Yes, denomination roulette, I wouldn't be surprised what you said will happen, The Methodist Conference also decided not to divest in Israel, Methodists reject motion to divest from Israel, but their future behavior is even murkier on this than it might be on homosexuality. There decades long path down liberalism will take them into even further apostasy.

When states, SCOTUS and Congress are "voting" to legalize a moral evil, that's the time to batten down the hatches in a denomination, not to put an issue to a vote year after year. To continually vote for/against openly-gay preachers is playing denomination roulette.

One of these years, you'll pull the trigger and -- no surprise to anyone -- drop dead like those who've also gambled with their souls and lost.

OT
Lev 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

No compromise there!!

NT
Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet."

No compromise there either.

GOD does not compromise! - Nor should the "REAL" Church!

Whereas Liberals - who are NOT Christians - compromise with any old sin! Like the idolatrous Roman Catholics do!

On these crucial modern issues, how does a conservative denomination or congregation decide?
If they're truly conservative, they would apply biblical principles and follow what the Bible says about it. If not, they do their own thing. Like the RCC does.

Do you actually want to know the answers to the questions you ask?

When did voting on a teaching start? I can't remember that part.

Do you go with a simple majority? Only tithers? Super majority? It flip-flops from year-to-year: anti-homosexual this year, pro- next and anti- the following? Can minors (under 18) vote? Visitors?

On these crucial modern issues, how does a conservative denomination or congregation decide?
