A proposal from the Obama administration to prevent children from doing farm chores has drawn plenty of criticism from rural-district members of Congress. But now it’s attracting barbs from farm kids themselves.
The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting them from performing a list of jobs on their own families’ land.
Under the rules, children under 18 could no longer work “in the storing, marketing and transporting of farm product raw materials.â€...
Labor Dept. withdraws farm child labor rule after Daily Caller report goes viral. "The Daily Caller," may be patting itself on the back too enthusiastically. I'm sure many farmers and agricultural organizations may have very well went ballistic, and that added to the incentive for Administration to change some of its actions.
I won't post a link here because I'm not savvy enough to do so, but go to you tube or the other tube site of your choice and check out the John Stossle report 'Everything Illegal'. You can probably catch footage of Mr. Stossle being beaten up by a pro wrestler from back in the 80s, but that's neither here nor there. The show I want you to see shows how "everything" in America is illegal these days from raising your own food to opening up a Lemonade stand. Very interesting to see how many freedoms we don't have. One lawyer on the show says that we commit about three felonies a day.
As stated below social policy from the Liberal UN down to local level. - Agenda 21 was intended to involve action at international, national, regional and local levels. Beware the bureaucrat cometh!
Jim Lincoln wrote: Some good observations by farm kids in the article, it should be read. But does Sarah Palin have it right? Sarah Palin says Obama wants to ban kids from farm work. Is she right
Pretty much. Here's a question for you. Is there constitutional authority for the Labor Department to make any such rulings? I couldn't find it. Somehow I'm still under the impression that Congress makes the laws.

Aww no jpw you didn't vote Democrat did you? Check behind the scenes jpw, Liberalism is destroying the world with the influence it has in governments, bureaucracy and institutions. Social policies are the effect not the cause!!
socialist nanny states are not made of ignorant philisophical idealists. they use a scripted philosophy in order to attain their goals. just blaming things on liberalism is going to continue to divert our attention from what is happening. in this case, this is agenda 21. the next generation is being restricted in learning the independent trades of farming and agriculture......the plan of the future is for a few farmers under the corporate-gov to grow gm foods and move people to the cities. time to go read up on it??? anything "sustainable" going through local communities is part of this global movement. no money to pave your roads?? but money for 'sustainablity' which oddly rarely ends in younger folks talking up wiser ways of using the land (which is what you would think sustainability would be about). agenda 21 is about consolidation of resources and a huge reduction of world population.

Hey America, don't you just love this new socialist nanny state you voted for.
Good old Barack will tell you what to do what to think and correct your old fashioned ideas and morals for you to make a better America. Is'nt he wonderful?
