CFR’s Plan to Improve Education: Change Nothing
The charge made by a report from the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) that the country’s students score poorly despite U.S. schools spending more than schools in other countries surprised no one. What was surprising was their recommendation: Leave things alone.

The report, put out by the CFR’s U.S. Education Reform and National Security task force, outlines clearly the deficits, deficiencies, and shortfalls of what passes for education in this country: Educational failure puts the United States' future economic prosperity, global position, and physical safety at risk. The country will not be able to keep pace — much less lead — globally unless it moves to fix the problems it has allowed to fester for too long. ...

It is. At least a number of 5-10 minute installments can be viewed on YouTube, along with other Stossel programs. One of the things I really like about Stossel is he plays a great Devil's advocate--whether he supports the interviewee's position or not. I don't get Fox Business channel so I have to settle for YouTube or weekend re-runs on his show on FNC.

I didn't imply a cover-up, nor do I have much doubt that the gist of the story is true. Anyway, what's wrong with pointing out a magazine's producer? Everyone has an ax to grind.

See "Stupid in America," hosted by John Stossel. It might be found on YouTube.

Now I have problems with JBS in other respects, but that isn't the point here.

Neil,

It doesn't appear that they are trying to hide that info, so how does it affect the article?

The report can be read here: http://i.cfr.org/content/publications/attachments/TFR68_Education_National_Security.pdf

The report recommends schools should continue outcome based education (now called common core state standards) and do auditing (testing) of students. It says states need to spend more money on schools. In other words, more of the same. to correct the problems.
