Book tells Muslim men how to beat and control their wives
In the book‚Äôs opening pages, it is written that ‚Äúit might be necessary to restrain her with strength or even to threaten her.‚ÄĚ
Later, its author advises that ‚Äúthe husband should treat the wife with kindness and love, even if she tends to be stupid and slow sometimes.‚ÄĚ
Page 45 contains the rights of the husband, which include his wife‚Äôs inability to leave ‚Äúhis house without his permission,‚ÄĚ and that his wife must ‚Äúfulfil his desires‚ÄĚ and ‚Äúnot allow herself to be untidy ... but should beautify herself for him ... ‚ÄĚ
In terms of physical punishment, the book advises that a husband may scold her, ‚Äúbeat by hand or stick,‚ÄĚ withhold money from her or ‚Äúpull (her) by the ears,‚ÄĚ but should ‚Äúrefrain from beating her excessively.‚ÄĚ...
Wonder if they adhere to the original "rule-of-thumb", which I was once told was a reference to the maximum size of the stick or similar implement that one could use to beat their wife (or was it their kid?).
Yet one more area where the Bible and the Koran differ. The Bible actually does talk about "beating" your kid, within reason (Biblical reason); but so far as I know says absolutely NOTHING about "beating" your mate.
I'll stick with my copy of 'The Complete Idiot's Guide to Beating and Controlling Your Wife', thank you very much.
Seriously, and this is a serious issue, living here in the middle east I've found that the women really are treated as second class citizens. There are some legitimate "nice guys" that I know and work with that treat their wives as equals just as we do in the West (for the most part). However, there are many who won't hesitate to beat their wives and cheat on them to.
