Are Some Professions 'Off-Limits' for Christians?
Are there some careers that should be considered "off-limits" for Christians due to the nature of the job?

Not according to Gene Edward Veith, provost and professor of literature at Patrick Henry College, who recently shared his thoughts on the matter on The Gospel Coalition website.

"The doctrine of vocation means that God assigns us to a certain life – with its particular talents, tasks, responsibilities, and relationships – and then calls us to that assignment. God never calls us to sin," he wrote. "All callings, or vocations, from God are thus valid places to serve. So strictly speaking, there are no unlawful vocations." ...

Ah yes, the courtroom and judgment has already taken place at The Cross, where Christ took away and bore the punishment for the sins of all believers everywhere.

With this faith confusion...
Confusion concerning the things of God are quite inevitable, simply because God is Almighty God. Are you confused by God being a Trinity of Persons, all equal and all eternal, present everywhere, with unlimited power and who knows every last thing. He knows the thoughts of every man, even the motives behind those thoughts. He knows who his friends are and he knows who his enemies are. He knows when a sparrow drops out of the tree, and he knows when a butterfly is eaten by a robin.

Confused about where God came from?

Why his Son had to die on a cross?

Confused about those suffering in hell right now?

You'll even be confused about faith, until you experience it, being as it is, a revelation of God to your soul. And even then, you will still be confused to a degree concerning it.

But a little child does not let confusing thoughts prevent it from trusting a loving father, neither should confusing thoughts prevent a sinner from approaching unto God in repentance, asking for pardon and peace from the Great Spirit, through the Lord Jesus Christ.

For the wages of sin is DEATH, but the gift of God is ETERNAL LIFE through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom 6:23

Trust what God says!

You'd think a college-educated man would be able to read this, understand and flawlessly regurgitate to his millions of followers.

Instead he throws in this "future faith saves" monkey wrench. Why would he count today's faith as a little stale when compared to tomorrow's faith?

Maybe it's related to what Swindoll discussed today. A few weeks ago there were 16 families divorcing in his church for no particular reason. That number has now swollen to 19 couples with more to come. Perhaps Swindoll is observing a new phenomenon into which most of us have no insight.

With these 38 Christians divorcing for no good reason, what faith do they really possess today? None. It's rampant antinomianism exposed.

In light of this, perhaps a "future faith saves" theory suddenly makes sense to these pastors.

"Past faith saves" vs. "Future faith saves"? With a deceitful heart, how can you even trust today's faith? Final faith is trustworthy. Today's? Not so much. With this faith confusion, I'll have to safely return to Piper's position.

This must be almost impossible to discover except by the most college-educated persons who have memorized the OT and NTs and have 16-18 hours each day for 3-4 decades to study and find the true Gospel.
Gracious, who has more time and smarts than Piper's had to get it right?
This has been a disappointing turn of events.
But thanks to our testallthings friend who immediately got us off Piper's dead-end trail. Perhaps someone around here can help us locate the true Gospel path and finally get us all at SA saved.
True, neither high education nor even papal decrees are what lead to salvation. Here is the true gospel path, if you have eyes to see:

Acts 16:30-34 "And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house."

Do you believe this?

What I read of the article, it is interesting. It would probably have been much less controversial if different quotes from the article were used which show that not all professions are a vocation from God, such as drug dealers etc.

Eh??

The False Gospel Of John Piper
Thank you!

Folks:

Bad news! Come to find out, Piper, one of the greatest Reformed Baptist leaders of all time, with a global flock numbering in the 10s of millions, is somehow teaching a damning false gospel.

With all of his education and 42 of years studying the Bible full-time, how could it be so unclear to him that he's inadvertently teaching a damning false gospel?

This must be almost impossible to discover except by the most college-educated persons who have memorized the OT and NTs and have 16-18 hours each day for 3-4 decades to study and find the true Gospel.

Perhaps John UK, you should have used the word, "Regeneration."
Easton Dictionary wrote:
… a renewal of the mind (Rom. 12:2); a resurrection from the dead (Eph. 2:6); a being quickened (2:1, 5). This change is ascribed to the Holy Spirit. It originates not with man but with God (John 1:12, 13; 1 John 2:29; 5:1, 4). As to the nature of the change, it consists in the implanting of a new principle or disposition in the soul; the impartation of spiritual life to those who are by nature "dead in trespasses and sins." The necessity of such a change is emphatically affirmed in Scripture (John 3:3; Rom. 7:18; 8:7-9; 1 Cor. 2:14; Eph. 2:1; 4:21-24).
What I read of the article, it is interesting. It would probably have been much less controversial if different quotes from the article were used which show that not all professions are a vocation from God, such as drug dealers etc.

Today’s preeminent Reformed Baptist pastor to pastors, John Piper, understands the importance of this faith for obtaining eternal life:
"Faith is profoundly future-oriented. There is no saving act of faith — whether looking back to history, out to a person, or forward to a promise — that does not include a future orientation."
This future faith, that can look backward and see a life lived in obedience and repentance, at the moment of death is what ultimately matters. It's profoundly future-oriented.
---
Read Piper again. He does not say there are no saving acts of faith in the present, but that they are future oriented. This should be obvious, in that "faith is the substance of things HOPED for...,"

John 3:36 "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

John 5:24 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."

Language in the present sense. No looking back to see if you did good enough. Which can never be good enough anyway. (That's why we need a Saviour!)

If you're totally saved, it doesn't matter what job you're doing. Pole dancer, 4th trimester abortionist, living-patient heart-harvester, flaming gay masseuse, drug-pusher, divorce lawyer, gang-banger or the doctor who kills granny for cash alike: they're eternally saved regardless of their profession. Salvation can't be by works (or quitting one's profession) lest anyone boast. Otherwise Luther's 16th Century "faith alone" theological novum postulate? Fail.

Does Salvation really require you to not only have faith alone, but also quit your career, become penniless, lose your house and not even be able to feed your wife and children? If this is faith alone, it sure doesn't seem like it.

To even suggest that some professions are 'off-limits' for a Christian would simultaneously be rank legalism and the equivalent of dancing on 10,000 graves of martyrs who died for Sola Fide.
