As a new school year begins, more than 50,000 Australian children will be home-schooled and in most cases, their parents are doing it illegally.
It is compulsory to send children between the ages of six and 16 to school, or register them for home schooling, but more parents are opting out of the traditional school system and keeping their children at home.
However, thousands of parents across the country are not registered and that means they potentially face prosecution.
I would be interested to speak to anyone in Sydney that is homeschooling their Children. As I am a Christian pastor who is currently Investigating the possibility of starting a church in the city.
Yes, Lurker, Lance was the person I was thinking of.
Leah, I'm glad to hear from Australia and a new voice that that.
Yes, many Christians forget that atheists find homeschooling suits their needs also. The Richard Dawkins of the 19th century was John Stuart Mill. He was homeschooled also. While he was an atheist like his father, he didn't end up supporting his father's philosophy.
I guess one would say that he worshiped logic, and Christians all too often shun it, but it is a God-given tool Our Mind & the Use of Our Gifts and are even books on logic written by Christians, Come Let Us Reason. I have no doubt, that copies of the book can be found in Australia and Britain.
Jim, I am a homeschooling mother from Australia. We are registered with a Christian school and use ACE. I don't agree with those who aren't registered either, but please be aware that the vast majority of Homeschoolers here these days are not Christians. We have good support here too with Homeschool groups. Having said that, with the way the world is going with Christians being persecuted, there may come a time when we all will need to go 'underground'.
Jim Lincoln wrote: It is interesting to see, what the Australian parents of homeschooled children think. I would hope that homeschooled children in Nebraska don't have parents that think they have to break the law. I believe we have a good organization to represent those parents, i.e.,Encouraging and supporting Christian families who educate their children at home. This is a Christian organization. Organizations like these should help parents make sure their children get an above average education compared to what is in the public schools, even the reasonably good ones we have in Nebraska. What would be interesting is to get some comments from some of the people who posted from Australia in the past. We have had excellent Protestant posters and even a gentlemanly Catholic one, which is tolerable.
I believe you are referring to Lance Eccles. A gentleman indeed, Jim. Too bad God has not yet called him from darkness into His glorious light.
