Homeschoolers React to Obama's Education Demand
Tuesday night in his State of the Union address President Obama called on all states to raise their school compulsory attendance age to 18, a move that stirred verbal backlash from homeschoolers.

"So tonight, I am proposing that every state—every state—requires that all students stay in high school until they graduate or turn 18,” Obama said on Tuesday night.

The Home School Legal Defense Association, or HSLDA, contends that the new age requirements would unnecessarily add to bureaucratic requirements for homeschoolers. ...

Mike of NY, 57 states? Now I know that Israel should be considered our 51st state, and many want Puerto Rico as our 52nd, but where do the other five come from?

Presidents, have been using their office as a bully pulpit for over a century, and I think longer. So as a national leader he has every right to comment on about anything that he thinks affects the nation. You and everyone else also have the right not to agree with him.

So, it is not in support of any of his positions, but I will support the tradition that he has the right to use his office as a bully pulpit.

I would also suppose that president Obama's statement was in large part to help keep adolescents off the street. The babysitting factor of public education can't be overlooked.
"So tonight, I am proposing that every state—every state—requires that all students stay in high school until they graduate or turn 18,” Obama said on Tuesday night.

Of course, we might ask what business is it of the president, and by what authority does he propose it. But we don't seem to think deeply enough to challenge the ongoing overstepping of constitutional authority, do we?

And he didn't say whether "every state" meant all 57 of them.

Excellent 5 minute summary on prison schools. Much applies to the "school at home" folks too.

if people want their homeschooling freedoms, they should vote for cohn's who support homeschooling all the time (and not just election time) such as Dr. Paul.

Voting for globalists means international law in regards to rights of children will come from inter'l law -- treaties already written folks.

its up to you.

oh is just giving you next step in the plan -- globalists on both sides end up with same thing--- sooner or later evan's will figure this out ---don't expect cfr leadership in church to tell you this.

I am not surprised about Obama's statements. It is good that the homeschoolers and the HSLDA are willing to defend themselves.
