Church’s authority ‘alone’

In one of the clearest rulings for religious freedom in years, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously decided that courts may not intervene in church hiring decisions, protecting the “ministerial exception” that the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sought to eliminate in Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. EEOC.

“[T]he authority to select and control who will minister to the faithful is the church’s alone,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the court’s opinion. Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Elena Kagan wrote separate concurring opinions that said the ministerial exception should be even broader than Roberts allowed in his opinion. ...

NYP, we are aware of The New Catholic Evangelization which you seem to want to do for your apostate church, The Church of Rome Steps Into Apostasy. an excerpt from the first article, the first paragraph,
Dan R. Smedra wrote:
In an effort to mitigate widespread nominalism and defection from Roman Catholicism over the past several decades (1), as well as cope with the pandemic of homosexually-transmitted AIDS (2) amongst its priesthood, the Papacy and the Catholic Church worldwide have renewed support for both clerical and lay apologetics and evangelism. Similar to the 16th Century Counter-Reformation, a new evangelization effort is in full swing. Numerous Catholic apologetic websites have made their debut on the Internet.
Ah, what is and evangelical? Is getting to be a difficult question, I believe my pastor has even given up using the word for that (if I'm wrong about that, I take total responsibility for that!) For describing fundamentalist Christians. The Syncretizing of the Gospel Today.

Since Dr. Trueman is not an "Evangelical" (according to you and, therefore, he would be eternally damned) how do you define who's an "Evangelical" (that is, who's eternally saved) or not?
I know you can read what Trueman said about evangelicals, from whom he distances himself. So do you not connect the dots because you truly cannot see them, or is it a positional thing you don't want to give up?

Please provide any statement of mine that said Trueman is not eternally saved.(a redundant phrase, btw, as one cannot be saved temporarily) His position in Christ cannot be determined from that article, so it would be wrong to say one way or the other. Anyone can talk religion, no? Whether one calls himself evangelical or not is not the determining factor in his salvation. Neither is membership in an institutional church.

Evangelicalism is a church?

If so, what are its boundary markers?

Hmmm.

1)If you're not calling Dr. Trueman a liar, then you've classified him a non-Evangelical by "his own words"?

2)By what "words" and by what authority do you have to single-handedly vote him off the Evangelical Isle (that is, vote him out of Heaven)?

1) Sure

2) His own words tell us what he thinks of evangelicals. Not any particular less intelligent ones, as if comparing them with his own self, but evengelicals in general:

"Thus, I would suggest a way forward: let evangelicals continue to debate the merits or otherwise of The Shack or Eat, Pray, Love or the latest animated Hollywood fantasy movie. Somebody has to do it, after all, and I certainly cannot be bothered so to do."

The old them vs me scenario. Seems clear enough he doesn't consider himself one of them dang evangelicals.

ps, truth is its own authority. It doesn't need an imprimatur.

1)Are you calling Reformed Pastor Trueman, a preeminent expert in Historical Theology, a liar when he asserts:
"Evangelicalism ... is not a church" or some other part of his quote?

2)Further, John Y. is not the pope, Benedict XVI is.
If John Y. refuses to follow the Pope, then, to that extent, it's on him.
Everyone to whom much is given, much is required.

1) No, I'm calling you mistaken when you assert he is an Evangelical Protestant, when his own words say otherwise. You are a good dancer, though.

2) Irrelevant. You quoted someone you said was an Evangelical Protestant "expert" to show how he disagreed with Ankerberg, by bracketing [Evangelical] into Ankerberg's statement about the true church. That kind of inventiveness won't get you a patent here.

If you're going to misquote Trueman as an evangelical to show his opposition to something Ankerberg didn't say, that could be considered deception. You need ask yourself, O defender of Rome, why you need this, if you are of the truth.

Next time cover your tracks better.

ps As Ankerberg says, the purpose of the church is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Evangel.
