Latest NIV Bible Translation Clearer on Homosexual Sins, Says Theologian
The latest version of the popular NIV Bible translation has had its verses on homosexuality reworded, making them clearer in denouncing the practice, a theologian who helped with the translation says.

These clarifications include the verse in 1 Corinthians 6:9, where the 1984 NIV version uses the phrase “homosexual offenders,” while the 2011 translation changes the phrase to "men who have sex with men."

The Committee on Bible Translation, chaired by Dr. Douglas J. Moo, who also serves as Wessner Chair of Biblical Studies at Wheaton College, released the 2011 New International Version last year. ...

Ebr was not heretical during the NT days. Why should it be so now? For example, how did Gil know he was called to the ministry? From the scriptures? And how did he decide whether or not to accept the call to IHCC? And if God should call him away to mission in Saudi Arabia, how would he know about that from scripture? Or if God should call him suddenly to the house of one of his congregation, would Gil ignore that call, believing it to be spurious? Or if the Lord should give him certain unpremeditated words during a sermon, would he ignore those words and stick to his premeditated preparation? Or if the Spirit should give him spiritual discernment over a matter, not attainable from scripture, would he ignore it, believing it to be devilish?

We had a pastor (who is now pasturing his own church) who came a Lutheran background. For all the good that Martin Luther did, he hoped that Luther made it into heaven. Besides the weaknesses I mentioned in another thread that Luther had, not having the right ideas on baptism (or for that matter the Eucharist,q.v., The Intention for the Bread & the Cup) being anti-Jewish, being anti-Anabaptist, and the use of drink and foul language give doubts he was one of the Elect. Again, however,

Let me get this straight:

Luther hates the popes, even gets excommunicated by one, but still embraces the Church's baptismal regeneration.

Then, yesterday you sent a link/quote from Spurgeon implying that he hates Luther and all of his baptismal regeneration ilk even including some Anglicans, accuses his BR as a stepping stone back to Rome and considers him to be in collusion with the Church.

Now, today, you quote Luther in the positive.

Do you hate Luther or love him?

And you're right about at least one thing. All Protestants, if they're true to their name, must awaken every morning flat-out hating all popes, cardinals, bishops, priests, nuns, brothers and sisters -- that is, all clergy -- in the Church. Protestants are totally united on their malevolence against each and every Catholic clergy. Even Sola Fide doesn't share this unanimity.

not-your-Pope, there is one thing that all conservative Christian Protestants believe--the Roman Catholic Church isn't Christian, q.v.,Should Roman Catholicism really be classified as a Christian religion? -- No..

Oh, and about the Pope: The Pope and the Papacy some excerpts from this:

Martin Luther wrote:
We here are of the conviction that the Papacy is the seat of the true and real Antichrist. I owe the Pope no other obedience than that I owe to Antichrist.…I am persuaded that if at this time St. Peter in person should preach all the articles of holy Scripture and only deny the Pope's authority, power and primacy and say that the Pope is not the head of all Christendom, they would cause him to be hanged. Yet if Christ Himself were again on earth and should preach without all doubt, the Pope would crucify Him again.

The little dog Toto pulls back the curtain and exposes the Wizard. In this most embarrassing moment the Wizard thunders out, “pay no attention to the little man behind the curtain.”
-The Wizard of Oz

Who's pushing the buttons, turning the dials and throwing the switches in Protestantism? Now that the Protestant curtain has been pulled back by Internet dialogues like this, in the final analysis, each Protestant is his own Wizard. He decides for himself how to define each of his own personal private doctrines -- or if he even wants a doctrine -- and most Protestants these days say: "No, thank you."

In Catholicism there's no secret "little man," it's the Pope, the successor of Christ and Peter, who is the final court of major doctrinal disagreements.

Popes, in concert with all 21 Ecumenical Councils, have defined the following and more over the centuries:

Trinity? Defined ["In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit" Mt 28:19].
Jesus both fully man and God? Defined.
Gospel? Defined [Nicene Creed].
Bible canon? Defined [73 Books].
Baptism? Defined [Titus 3:5; Jn 3:5].
Homosexuality? Defined [grave depravity].
Abortifacients? Defined [intrinsically evil].

If you argue here until the cows come home, when will you ever have time to do Jesus' Great Commission

Another one of those gotcha questions?

Where is the scriptural command declaring they must be resolved?

1Cr 11:19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.

Doctrinal disagreements serve God's purpose and it is not your prerogative to question His eternal counsel proposed within Himself.

Okay. When I have time later, we'll do the same exercise with the differences within Roman Catholicism. Let's see how well your church fares, even with a humanly appointed Pope.
