Focusing on the Jewish Story of the New Testament

The book Dr. Jill Levine has just edited with a Brandeis University professor, Marc Zvi Brettler, ‚ÄúThe Jewish Annotated New Testament‚ÄĚ (Oxford University Press), is an unusual scholarly experiment: an edition of the Christian holy book edited entirely by Jews. The volume includes notes and explanatory essays by 50 leading Jewish scholars, including Susannah Heschel, a historian and the daughter of the theologian Abraham Joshua Heschel; the Talmudist Daniel Boyarin; and Shaye J. D. Cohen, who teaches ancient Judaism at Harvard.

As any visitor to the book expo at this conference discovered, there is a glut of Bibles and Bible commentaries. One of the exhibitors, Zondervan, publishes hundreds of different Bibles, customized for your subculture, niche or need. Examples include a Bible for those recovering from addiction; the Pink Bible, for women ‚Äúwho have been impacted by breast cancer‚ÄĚ; and the ...

Ah, Rufus I can't agree!

Jeremiah 31
29 "In those days they will not say again, 'The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children's teeth are set on edge.'
30 "But everyone will die for his own iniquity; each man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth will be set on edge.
31 "Behold, days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah,

Romans 11:1 I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
2 God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?---NASB

Only two people in the history of the world had a direct bearing on any group of people's sins, the first Adam, and the Second, Christ.

I agree it is a sad article as it is indeed sad when people see Roman Catholicism and believe that to be Christianity.

The paragraph on Zondervan and their stream of new Bible versions was also sad.

Re: "nonsense"

Jews killed Jesus Christ and brought a curse upon themselves and their posterity...
"Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children." - Matthew 27:25

God declares that iniquity will be visited upon the fathers and their children(Ex 34 etc.)

Currently, unbelieving Jews are antichrist liars...

"Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son." - 1 John 2:22

But if they will confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers then God is faithful to forgive and restore their covenant.

This is prophesied to one day occur when the Jewish people will stop hating their saviour and gloriously see what they have done to Him...

"And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends." - Zechariah 13:6

It is not nonsense to blame modern Jews for the death of Christ for it was applied to their account. They delivered him and hath the greater sin (John 19:11).

This is a sad article. It's sad because the author thought Catholics were Christian --Should Roman Catholicism really be classified as a Christian religion? -- No..

She got confronted by the nonsense the Jews killed Christ, I'm surprised no Jew comes back with,"Hey if we didn't kill Him, you all would be going to hell right now!" The Death of Christ is a complex event, and blaming any modern Jew for Christ's death is utter nonsense. You can't blame all Jews for Christ's death because the apostles were Jews, and they certainly didn't participate in the crucifixion.

It is a pity that Jews have a commented Bible, they need a Bible that isn't commented and follow the original text closely such as the The New American Standard Bible, without comments. Jewish rabbis like to discuss issues to a fine point, should I say infinite one, which would lead many Jewish laymen as confused as they are. Some examples of this can be found at the bottom of the article, Jesus - The Messiah?
