Open-door policies have limits; churches improve their security

Thankfully, assaults on people in local churches are the exception. However, there have been enough incidents to make local congregations upgrade security measures.

Pastor Steve Viars said security is a priority for the Faith Church campus, which includes the Faith Community Center, Faith Christian School and the Vision of Hope center for women.

"The church building is locked down during the services, so access is only available at monitored main entrance doors," he said. "This is also true during the week to limit access to the facility. ...
