Personhood movement aims for landmark win in Miss. election

After suffering disappointing losses in Colorado in 2008 and 2010, the pro-life community's young personhood movement is on the verge of what would be a landmark victory in Mississippi to define all human life as beginning at conception.

Even though voters there will go to the polls Tuesday to elect a new governor, political and cultural observers nationwide are watching to see if Mississippians pass Initiative Measure 26, a constitutional amendment that supporters say would end abortion in Mississippi -- and potentially do the same nationwide in a challenge to Roe v. Wade.

The idea is simple enough: amend the Mississippi constitution to define all life as beginning at conception, which would, supporters say, protect the unborn. The proposed 21-word amendment states: "The term 'person' or 'persons' shall include every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning or the functional ...

Ah, from an admitted liberal source, Mississippi rejects abortion amendment; ... which finishes this thread--as far as the main article that SA put up, is concerned.

Dear Neutral, Time to wake up and join the rest of us... I spent many years witnessing in front of abortuaries, as well as couseling at the local CPC and I will swear before the Lord that Christians are aborting their children. In fact, abortion has scarred the lives of many in Christ. If you have no love for your neighbor, then how about for fellow believers? Sorry to be so harsh, but this truly is a life and death matter. Abort73.com has a T-shirt that says "Would it bother us more if they used guns?" I think that slogan pretty much sums it up.

There is a time for every purpose under heaven, there is much we do not know and what we know we know only in part. Rachel would not willingly participate in any of these evils you mention. These evils are not forced on people, they are a choice made by those who have no fear of God.

If some Mississippians believe that African-Americans, Jews, the disabled, or those over 65 are non-persons, then they could place an initiative on the ballot and call for a general vote.

Eventually, a nation's majority could declare various minorities to not be persons. The U.S. did this with slavery and unborn children. Germany did this with the Jews (and others). The best way to subjugate or extinguish a people group is to democratically declare them non-persons.

1.Sounds properly spiritual. 2. So was it wrong biblically for Mississippi to put forth a constitutional amendment declaring personhood begins at conception, thus making abortion unlawful and preserving life? 3. Does man have a role in proclaiming God's Truth as

1. God's Word is spiritually discerned.

2. It is an inadequate solution to the underlying problem, sin. Neither playing on emotional sentiment nor making men's efforts God's final word on the matter really provides the solution to the underlying problem.

3. Proclaiming God's truth is the job of the ministry, living it and loving it is the duty of God's people. When there is unity of mind there is affection of love. This will cause others to be drawn to the proclamation of the gospel. It is the duty of state and federal government to enforce righteousness in this land. Are you absolutely sure that the change of this amendment will bring that to pass?

It's laughable that a state would need to vote on this universal truth.
Perhaps a black individual or a Jew is not a person. Shall Mississippi voters amend their constitution accordingly?
Didn't the 19th and 20th c. teach the world anything about "personhood"?
Does the Mississippi constitution actually say a black individual or a Jew is not a person?

Was the denial of personhood by a handful of government people (Roe v Wade) also laughable? If not, why is it laughable if a State vote to restore what was denied?

While Christians debate doctrine and look for areas to disagree, babies are torn apart in their mother's wombs because they might cost some money or time to their parents... Very sad. I strongly believe the pro-aborts aren't nearly as dangerous as apathetic christians. Perhaps a review of the Good Samaritan parable found in Scripture is needed.

The Truth reigns whether men choose to acknowledge it or not. Psalm 2 strongly admonishes leaders of nations to do so and not be unwise or uninstructed lest he be angry and they perish in the way, when his wrath is but kindled a little. Blessedness is trusting in this King.

WLOX is reporting the amendment failed - 59% precicts reporting in with 43% voting yes and 57% voting no. I've also received numerous reports of other states moving forward with personhood efforts; we'll just keep on working and praying to end prenatal child murder in America for God's glory.

Mrs. Wittman, we are not very well known to one another via these post it notes, but yes we have somethings in common that would draw to a friendship. The response I made was to the comment and i did not see your post until after I posted. The LORD has richly blest my day two psalms I sang this day sensibly Psalm 92 and 16.
"It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord and to sing praises unto thy name,O most high: to show forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night. " to this I say Amen for I appreciate the sense of His faithfulness and desire it to continue but sing I must. I can sing his praise because it is true even through tears of sorrow and because I know it sensibly by faith.

Dear RP,
Hopefully someday you and I will become great friends as you are a sincere sister in the Lord... But I have found that following the "letter of the law" will sometimes quench the joy found in following the "spirit of the law." Just some food for thought... In other words, flexibility is sometimes needed. May the good Lord bless you.

God established the priesthood of all believers. Beware of clericalism.
If God calls you to pray and fast and exhort others to do so then do.
I am aware of the dangers of separating brethren into catagories of clergy and laity. I am aware of what Peter taught in his epistle. But that is not to be divorced from what Paul taught in Ephes. 4. It is my understanding that the Spirit through the Scripture may lead an indvidual to fast and pray and possibly two or three others in unsettled times, but the normal call corporately comes from the elders in a settled state of he Church. It is my hope to see a more settled state of the visible Church in the not too distant future.
