Mustafa Abdul-Jalil, the chairman of the National Transitional Council and de fact president, had already declared that Libyan laws in future would have Sharia, the Islamic code, as its "basic source".
But that formulation can be interpreted in many ways - it was also the basis of Egypt's largely secular constitution under President Hosni Mubarak, and remains so after his fall.
Mr Abdul-Jalil went further, specifically lifting immediately, by decree, one law from Col. Gaddafi's era that he said was in conflict with Sharia - that banning polygamy....

I like your final comment especially. The forgotten Christians of the East. Most of these battles have been about oil, and in Iraq and Afghanistan we could have very well insisted that this be in their constitutions,

Amendment Text | Annotations
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Oh, and we come back (with at least Predator aircraft) to make sure they lived up to it.

jpw You ask an excellent question, and the answer seems to come in many facets.
Beginning with us who do understand passionately seeking the face of God and pursuing genuine Biblical holiness and the power of the Holy Spirit in our praying and witness until man cannot deny God Almighty is real AND Jesus Christ is our Lord.
Continuing with a passionate seeking the face, the will, and the glory of God in our churches that our God might do a serious house cleaning of His temple and His manifest presence and the fear of Him who is Holy might be known again NOT pretended in the churches who vainly imagine they worship and serve Him.
IMHO it is today the duty of His people to earnestly pray for REVIVAL AND ANOTHER GREAT AWAKENING before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes, and make no mistake His judgment upon the U.S. is coming and it will begin with the churches.
Shame on the U.S. for fighting at taxpayer's expense to make the world safe for Islam and the tyranny of Shariah law.
