Church Is Its Own Worst Critic, Says Church Planter
Two years ago, Cox was recruited by Pastor Rick Warren’s team at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., to help with its already well-developed global online community of pastors. His mission: take the church’s website which is dedicated to equip pastors, Pastors.com, to the next level.
In doing so, in “connecting our community to itself” and growing the number of church leaders, Cox has read enough books, blog posts, tweets, Facebook comments, and emails to learn that the Church is its own worst critic.
To counter all the negativity, he recently wrote a blog post titled, “What’s Right With the Church in 2011.”...
The Truth Behind The Church's Purpose is not nose counting. If Ricky wants the Church to be the Salvation Army, tell him to join that. Unfortunately, Ricky would demand to be made a general and he wouldn't start out as a private.
So he says that the church is too self-critical. Isn't that criticism, too? Perhaps he only wants debate to cease after *his* criticism is proffered - he's "tired" of the rest, stop bothering him.
His list of "positives" do not necessarily escape negative implications.
How does he decide a ministry is "effective?" I can only think of two ways: open a window into peoples' souls, or count noses.
