Oh of course, you're thinking of when the RCC dished out forgiveness of sins for money (loadsamoney). These were called "indulgences". And not forgetting the big gifts of land and manor houses to the RCC in exchange for prayers for the dead so the rich didn't spend too long in (the imaginary) purgatory.
I suggest, Prunella, that you make a study of GRACE, and try to understand what it really is, and where it really comes from. A clue for you is that it does not come from any man. But it does often attend upon the word of God preached, when God chooses to give it, to whom he chooses to give it to, and in what manner it is given according to the individual circumstances.
Grace, to be grace, has to be by faith alone in Christ alone, or it is no more grace but by merit. And that can never be.

1. Grace can only come from God!! - NOT from a church. (Not even from your papal antichrist).

Ministers and other Christians leaving the CofS is a small 'Reformation' in a way. As you know the 16th century Reformation ordained by God, removed the Christians from the Roman Catholic false religion. Today we see a similar action in that Bible Christians, who know that Sola Scriptura is a divine gift, and remove themselves from the abomination promoters. That which is left will be like the RCC, - The blind leading the blind.
Thus does God continue to work amongst His Remnant.
The Disruption in 1843 saw the Biblical Christians leave the CofS and become the "Free Church" - But even they are succumbing to the Liberal agenda. This is a sign of the times which we live in. The Protestant Church is under attack and as we have observed in previous generations the true Church will come under Satan's attack and the trial of faith continues unabated.

What you consider "Liberalism" they probably consider grace-filled, not legalistic and not hypocritical.

It wasn't long ago that the extremely small number of Christian divorcees were considered "damaged goods" -- that is divorced with private admonition never to remarry. Now there's so much grace passed out that any Christian can get divorced for virtually any reason, remarry and be considered a member in good standing in the most conservative of Reformed churches. Few, if any, questions asked.
If we give too much latitude to a young child, doesn't he eventually get hurt? Likewise, if grace is a rope, can't it strangle if too much is supplied to a believer?
Perhaps this is how the CofE and CofS fell to their current "satanic" state. They gave out too much grace and, tragically, are now hanging by it.

I can understand that there are some Christians who want to remain and fight within these national churches, for the Bible law and truth. But the current evil of sodomy is more than just a few deviants wanting to be treated with respect and equity in society. This is a battle with Satan for the hearts and minds of true Christianity.
At this moment in history the sodomite agenda is winning and the great problem we perceive in the pews is the ignorance of Scripture law and doctrines. As Jesus stated 'Many will call Him Lord, Lord' but they will be no more Christian than any Liberal is.
The position opening up today for real Bible Christians is that the institutions of government, churches, judiciary and police are gradually creating an Anti-Christian environment, by reinterpreting Scripture to sympathise with sodomy and legitimize sin. Romans 1:18ff refers.
