Indiana Pastor: 'Saved' Should Be Removed From Church Vocabulary
An Indiana megachurch pastor says he is annoyed at the word “saved,” especially when used among Christians to describe someone that has made a commitment to follow Jesus for the rest of their lives.

Christian cliché doesn’t sit well with him, Stevens told CP. He said it is important for Christians to not only live their faith, but talk about their faith in any setting, keeping in mind that some words don’t make sense to non-Christians.

“I think that so often when we use those terms in-house, we’re talking among Christians, we forget where we are at and we forget who we are with,” he said. “We use those words to translate outside (the Christian community) when they don’t mean anything to anyone or they ostracize or set us apart when we really want to be making connections.” ...

I read the article, and what was in the article, was really quite good but American Methodist? Mega-church? apparently it's huge, it's really a mini-denomination in itself. Most importantly, I couldn't find a Statement of Faith for it, while the article itself was clear, what church says about itself is pablum propaganda. compare their Who We Are to IHCC's IHCC Statement of Faith

This IT specialist who wrote the article is typical of the breed who has little understanding of communication with people, "All Change is Good, Period. (sub-corollary--and more often the better. )" e.g., (Any of you seen the www.bible.org site lately?) and while Pastor Stevens seems to know the meanings of Christian vocabulary, he would rather remove it entirely rather then explain it.

Let me guess this pastor follows Rick Warrens garbage. I use the term saved and I find most people know what I mean. Now for the small percent who don't know what I mean I explain it too them as simple as I can. Saved from sin saved from death saved from hell. I tell em I am saved from myself and now live for Jesus the best I can. Come on people we are SAVED.

Preaching void of the sovereignty of GOD, the sin of humanity, and the need of GOD's work of regeneration in the hearts of a fallen humanity, is a talk that lacks the power of GOD to impact lives.

Joel Osteen comes to mind with this statement. Is this what you want to be remembered as...? I hope not.

Strange, SVU, I didn't number those, and you can use the Gospel of John or the Book of Acts, etc., to point out the way man is saved from sin, i.e., How to Have Victory Over Sin or a sermon for that matter, Freedom from Sin.

Now of John U.K., gave an explanation, that's good. I'm just pointing out when one tosses, "sin," "Godhead," or "propitiation", e.g.,

Romans 3
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed;---NASB

even though to a believer many of the terms that Christians banter about (and sometimes don't give much thought about either) they need explanation.

If this pastor in the article is "emergent," he would not be Committed to the Ministry of the Truth[/

Seeker-sensitive life coaches (I mean, pastors) cannot answer this question because the "gospel" they preach is devoid of sin (willful, rebellious acts against a holy God) springing from an original sin nature (Adam being our federal head fell into sin and we inherit that Adamic, God-hating nature), and therefore salvation is not necessary in their pathetic, disgusting, switch-n-bait tactics which draw sinners to placation of guilt and shame and not allowing God's word to exacerbate their guilt that they may be SAVED; saved from sin, from God's wrath against them, and saved from the eternal consequences of hell. This is only possible through Jesus Christ, the only Righteous One, who died for sinners who repent (another hated word in seemingly most of these country clubs) and trust in Him alone to SAVE them from the eternal wrath of God they DESERVE!

The term "saved" and the doctrine of salvation does not belong to many churches and denominations anyway.

Liberals eg Anglican/Episcopalian are unsaved as can be seen in their rejection of Scripture and their acceptance of evil such as the abomination.

Roman Catholics are unsaved as can be seen in their rejection of Scripture and their acceptance of evil practices such as idolatry, blasphemous mass, worship of graven images and rediculous relics, and the 'promotion' of dead people above God, to receive their prayers.

Other similar cults such as Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons are of the same ilk.

"1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of."

Please notice that I have only mentioned the work of God in Christ. This is because "salvation is of the Lord", not of mans choosing or effort. All the effort was made by Christ himself. Therefore to compare his work on earth with the feeble efforts of men is tantamount to blasphemy which, of course, the RCC is guilty of.
But if you wish to be saved, forget yourself and your own works, and concentrate on the person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ. The more you focus on him and his work, the more likely you are to believe on him to the saving of your soul. I sure wish you would do that, instead of posting drivel dredged up from the devil's cauldron.
Thank you John for this very clear and precise understanding of salvation

Do you climb up to heaven according to EE's nine "Steps to Life" or Jim's seven steps up "The Roman Road"?

Either way, these paths seem to take human effort.

This minister implies a correct idea, explain what you mean if you are using jargon. Use contemporary English also, e.g.,
The Roman Road
Romans 3:10
As it is written, "There is none righteous, not even one."
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 5:12
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.
Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the free gift of God is etemal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 10:9
That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.
Romans 10:13
For "Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved."---NASB

This church is part of Rick Warren's Purpose Driven movement so they should be exposed and reproved. They are like most heretical movements that "intentionally" use terminology that can applied differently to confuse and mislead people. It is like RC saying "we are saved by grace"; when they clearly know they aren't and clearly know they mean something different by that expression. Many of these people even go so far as to say Jesus is their leader and not their Lord because non-churched people have problems with the word Lord. They mostly claim they are using the below scriptures to justify their heresy. Denying the truth of scripture is not what Paul was referring to.

1 Corinthians 9:22. To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some.
23. I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it.

As far as this Pastor is concerned, if he has lots of parishoners and lots of people who profess they are Christians then he must be doing something right. Sell a lot of widgets and you are successful; don't and you're not.

Is That "Indiana Pastor" Insane, Devil/Demon-Spirit Possessed &-Or THE ANTICHRIST HIMSELF ? ! ? ! ? !

THE VERY NAME "JESUS" MEANS:

"SALVATION" &-OR "SAVED" !

"YESHUA", THE BIBLICAL-HEBREW WAY OF SAYING "JESUS" IN ENGLISH, MEANS:

SALVATION &-OR "SAVED" ! ! !

THIS SO-CALLED "PASTOR" IS AN HERETIC, APOSTATE & ANTICHRIST;

LIKE SOME SO-CALLED "PROFESSING" CHRISTIANS WHO EVEN POST COMMENTS ON THIS SERMONAUDIO WEBSITE:

WHO DENY THE VERY ETERNAL & IMMUTABLE "WORD OF GOD"; BOTH THE LIVING & THE WRITTEN "WORD OF GOD"--THAT IS, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST & HIS HISTORIC+66-BOOKED+AUTHORIZED+HOLY+BIBLE !

THE NAME "JOSHUA" IN THE OLD-TESTAMENT IS NIGH-CLOSE-TO-THE-EQUIVOLENT OF THE NAME "JESHUA" (OR JESUS) IN THE NEW-TESTAMENT:

SO MUCH SO THAT WHEN THE TRANSLATORS OF THE KING JAMES BIBLE TRANSLATED HEBREW 4:8 & ACTS 7:45; THEY USED THE WORD (NAME) "JESUS (YESHUA)" INSTEAD OF THE WORD (NAME) "JOSHUA (YOSHUA)":

NOT THAT THE O.T. "JOSHUA" (MOSES' ASS'T) IS THE N.T. "JESUS" (CHRIST) OR VISA-VERSA !

BUT, BECAUSE THE WORDS-NAMES "JOSHUA (YOSHUA)" & "JESUS (YESHUA)" LITERALLY MEAN:

THE LORD-GOD IS SALVATION & SALVATION !

OR SIMPLY PUT:

SALVATION &-OR SAVED !

***PRAISE GOD !

I'M SAVED !

I'M YESHUA-IZED !

JESUS-IZED !

SAVED !

SAVED !

SAVED ! ! !

"Perhaps" is no good to me, fella.

My Christianity is definite, sure, solid, powerful.

I do not recommend EE to anyone, and for you to be involved with them says a lot. Maybe you are now casting around trying to find the truth. If so, I wish you well. But you will never find it until you are born again by the will of God and the power of his Spirit.

"Few there be that find it." said Jesus.

The world can say what it will, it is all woffle and nonsense. I don't need to prove anything to anybody, nor can I. The most righteous person on earth is just as capable of convincing someone that Jesus is God who died a penal substitute for sinners, as a broken fishing rod.

Oh, I have eternal life all right. I have met and embraced THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, who called me by the gospel.

Continue focussing on yourself, and you will surely come a cropper. Make much of CHRIST, and consider what HE has done to save poor, blind, dead sinners like us.

In order to contend for the faith once delivered to the saints, as Jude exhorts us to; we need to have an Historical Scriptural faith that has been held by the faithful and true Protestant Church, that has in contrast to Rome contended against her works salvation because they were Justified by Grace, through faith, in Christ's meritorious work of redemption, clearly portrayed in the whole word of God. They were Reformed in Doctrine and Worship and Presbyterian in discipline and Government (no pope, but a plurality of elders) for generations, the apostasy has gained momentum, but the Captain of our salvation from sin is King Jesus. No matter how diminished true religion has become due to the present apostasy, our God reigns! We have Judea-Christian roots in the Old and New Testament Scriptures. The New in the Old concealed is now the Old in the New revealed.

It is also necessary to understand the wiles of the devil against our generation as revealed and I believe this Dutch Reformed pastor has contributed sound Biblical teaching yet still, one must listen as a Berean.

Most Americans now know the answer ("because of my faith in Jesus") to this 2nd EE question:

"If you were to die tonight and God were to ask you, "Why should I let you into heaven," how would you answer?"

According to EE, there are nine "Steps to Life."

Perhaps these are the "Jesus-plus-something" steps up to heaven and eternal life.

Telling you that I'm "saved" is no big deal. Even the lady with the bumper stickers can say that. Instead, the world (and James) says to me: "Prove it!" ... by daily taking up my cross and following Christ.

"What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?" James 2:14
Quote from article:

"Yet even as EE was beginning, America's primary Christian heresy was changing. Mainline Protestantism's decline, beginning in the 1950s, coincided with Evangelicalism's decades-long rise to influence and fortune. The end result was a transformation of America's primary Christian heresy from the works-based salvation of Roman Catholicism and mainline Protestantism to the easy-believism, Jesus-plus-nothing approach that came to characterize Evangelicalism."

The author here is speaking nonsense. The opposite of "Jesus-plus-nothing" is "Jesus-plus-something".

Maybe you would like to explain what the "something" is that is necessary for salvation, eh?

The truth is that we can only be saved by faith only in Christ only, and that this faith is a God-given faith which brings forth repentance unto God. It is not only remorse for sin, but a God-given hatred for sin. A new saint does not have produce this themselves, they are a "new creature in Christ".
