Pope's youth day draws a million -- and controversies
The week-long faith extravaganza of World Youth Day is underway now with more than a million young Catholics expected to pour in to Madrid.
Pope Benedict XVI isn't due until Thursday, but the $72 million celebration is still a hot item. And not all for good reasons, according to The New York Times,
... Bitter debates are raging over the festivities and the role of the church in Spanish politics.
... priests, along with dozens of left-leaning groups demanding a secular state and young people who occupied many of Spain's main squares for months to protest the government's handling of the economy, are planning at least one major protest march on Wednesday.
"Historically, the orthodox Christian church has condemned the papacy as anti-Christian. The papacy is not only not Christian, but also blatantly anti-Christian. The Popes of Rome are not saints, not holy fathers, but advocates for the Father of Lies. They hold one of the highest chairs of darkness under the Devil himself in contrast to the Kingdom of Jesus Christ and His righteousness. John 8:44, ‚ÄúYou are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do.‚ÄĚ Like the devil, the Popes of the Roman Catholic Church lie to their sheep, and tell them that they can work their way into heaven because the Pope, the Vicar of Christ on earth, understands the Scriptures to teach such guidance for faith and practice. Christ is not enough. Men must do their part as well. Christ is simply not enough. (Compare these thoughts with the Roman dogma found in the sections on Justification in the Council of Trent and the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church.)" (Dr C.Matthew McMahon)(A Puritans Mind)
