Leaders of American cities, facing fiscal crunches and the threat of diminishing federal support, were looking nervously across the Atlantic this week at the riots that shook one of the world’s premier metropolises.
But American mayors and big-city members of Congress who spoke to POLITICO ‚ÄĒ and several mayors declined to participate in a story that would include their cities‚Äô name and the taboo word ‚Äúriot‚ÄĚ ‚ÄĒ said they thought the unrest in England was unlikely to be replicated in the United States.
‚ÄúI can only tell you that in communities of color and in economically depressed communities of the city we have worked hard to build relationships in those communities ‚ÄĒ there‚Äôs a lot more trust for our [police department] today than at any time in our history,‚ÄĚ said Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, adding that his city is the safest it‚Äôs been since the Eisenhower administration....
"Labour Party leaders have tied the riots to the ‚Äúausterity‚ÄĚ policies of Prime Minister David Cameron‚Äôs Tory government"
Trust the socialists to come up with that rubbish. The riots started off with a suspected drug dealer shot - Is that austerity measures.
What followed was anarchists, criminals and louts joining together to attack authority and steal whatever they could lay their sticky little fingers on.
The riots are not political or economic or any other type of philosophy. They are just wicked and criminal people indulging in a sinful rampage to see how much they can get away with. And some of them, will get away with their crimes, even if some do get caught and dealt with.
