The University of Minnesota Stem Cell Institute repeatedly testified during the legislative session against a permanent ban on state funding of human cloning, saying it wanted to leave open its option to clone human life with state funds. ...

"Scientists who create cloned human embryos typically dissect and kill the human clones within days after they are alive."

"Embryonic stem cell research has proved enormously controversial in the United States and in other nations such as Germany, France, and Japan. For the most part, the controversy over stem cell research has hinged on the morality of destroying human embryos to obtain stem cells to culture cell lines for research purposes."
