Evangelical women rise as new ‘feminists’
In evangelical Christian circles, “feminist” has traditionally been a dirty word. The three short syllables have done heavy work, telegraphing all the things the “Christian right” loves to hate about the “secular left.”

A feminist, according to this definition, favors “abortion on demand, government-funded abortion, redistribution of wealth, same-sex marriage and is antiwar, anti-defense,” says Penny Nance, the CEO of Concerned Women for America, the antiabortion group. In this most pejorative view, a feminist puts her personal ambition ahead of the needs of her children.

Now, in a reversal, some conservative Christian women are tentatively claiming the feminist label for themselves. In the reframing, feminism has nothing to do with a woman’s right to choose an abortion or with government programs for the poor. ...

With neo-feminism sweeping the world powered by birth control, won't even conservative denominations continue to downgrade as many MDiv/PhD-educated women (or even pastors' wives with these credentials) buck for the pulpit and win it?

Then, a few decades later, the embrace of same-sex marriage will be the death knell of once-conservative denominations.

I think that the real problem in addressing so called "feminism" is that the Bible is under attack. Feminism is a form of attack by the essentially non-Christian groups who also attack marriage and the family. Part of the feminism ideology has seen to be related in recent history, to adultery, Lesbianism and abortion, which also represent an attack upon Scripture law and precept.

Rather than simply being a "weakened" male gender corresponding to "strengthened" female gender, the core dilemma/dispute is sin and human rebellion from and defiance of God.

Feminism began as quote, "equal rights for women" - but in effect it was really "change society for mammon" - send the female out to work and reduce her commitment to wifehood and motherhood. Feminism developed from covetousness, greed and mans ancient desire to replace God with himself, creature worship; Rom 1:25.

The serpent in the Garden of Eden went to Eve to tempt her - not Adam. Satan being as cunning and knowledgeable as he is must have made that choice for a reason!

"Birth control pills helped empower women, changed the world"

"No longer forced into motherhood by their biology, women could choose how they wanted to shape their lives, planning when to have children and how many to have. Meanwhile, they could pursue higher education and careers.

""Women cannot compete with men as long as they're childbearers first and employees second," said Lynne Luciano, a history professor at California State University, Dominguez Hills. "The pill allowed women to stay in their careers, and get pregnant when they feel like it, not by accident."

"For the first time, preventing pregnancy was in a woman's hands. She could take the pill at her discretion, without anyone knowing and without depending on a man."

If we didn't want to arrive here, we should have listened to our Christian forebears who warned us about these contraceptive effects where women are empowered and men are emasculated.

This was my question as well upon first reading this article. There was a poster who previously commented that "Christian men are often too gentlemanly to tell a 'conservative' feminist that she is out of place." I think they are scared as well as (possibly) being too "gentlemanly."

It has become politicially incorrect for men to assert masculinity and to be leaders in homes, churches, and the government. Looks like the military is next; it has already started there, too.

I also think Christian men should lament the absence of Biblical femininity in many of today's women. It is so easy to be swept away by the wickedness of this culture. That's why Bible study and obedience to God is essential. The Word gives us wisdom and shows us how to walk circumspectly.

Good Morning you all,

Just a brief thought here. While I certainly agree feminism is wrong and should give us all a great appreciation for women who have a true God-fearing femininity there is a whole other issue that should be raised.

What in the world has happened to men, to real men? It is like they have been exterminated or exiled to Mars or the dark side of the moon.

Let me recommend The Bravehearted Gospel by Eric Ludy, not a perfect book but still and excellent one for us as Christians in the day we are living in.

I believe his words will be a blessing.

Regarding the prohibition of women presidents...
The ruling power of our chief executive officer is little different to that of a pharoah of Egypt, the Caesars of Rome, the "chancellor" of Germany circa 1930s or any other ruling national authority. Our president has the de facto power to wage war without the consent of congress or the people, and he has the de facto power to imprison or kill without due process.

Regardless, if we were to lay aside the Biblical argument and went with a Constitutional argument a woman would still not have authority to be president of the United States for though our ancestors made the unfortunate misstep of an amendment granting a woman the authority to vote, she in no wise has the authority to be the President of the United States for she would have to be a he.

"He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years."

"The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services,..."

"Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:"

"This is a true saying, If a MAN desire the office of a bishop, HE desireth a good work." - 1 Timothy 3:1
Regarding the prohibition of women presidents, at least of the USA: The president does not rule, he presides. Thus the title preside-ent. We do not have rulers. He presides over the executive affairs of government of, by, and for the people. He works for us, and he can be removed by us. If he were a she, then she would work for us. So I would have to disagree with the idea that there exists biblical prohibition against a woman president.

Having said that, there is little femininity to be seen in feminism.

b) Why is it that only women suffer the unpardonable sin when they lead or preach?

a) Exactly!! AND of course history records that they started using female ministers back in the sixties. So their evil unBiblical decline began by disobedience back then.

b) The "unpardonable sin" is that particular church's disobedience. Today we have a name for it - Liberalism. This is a disease which pollutes churches and nations by removing authority such as God's laws and doctrines, and justice in the courts. The biggest problem we have in authority removal, is the removal of moral standards, which the Liberals have used to allow the abomination of homosexuality to become acceptable.

Thus by removing the Bible you will receive the wrath of God which is described in Romans Chap. 1:18-32. This is what is happening to the Church of Scotland now. The C of E is already in this satanic rut.

The reason why women cannot go into the pulpit is that God does not use them there. It has nothing to do with human ability whether male or female. If the person in the pulpit is not ordained of God then all you will get is human babble.

the establishment is able to find the ladies with big hair that will push their hawkish agenda. that's what this is really about. Its the hair that's pretty, not the agenda.(but if image is what is important......)

so the men have to become feminists (according to the article) to vote for a woman (who wants war), instead of being patriarchal and voting for a man who wants the country to live within its means and to treat other nations as we would expect them to treat us.

Dear NeoFem,
The Scripture in Isaiah that Rufus pointed out to you is one I kept hitting my head against as a woman political leader. I meant to be a blessing to others, but in reality I was actually a sign of God's judgement/curse on society. If you want to appeal to history (which is really His-Story) then look at it through a Biblical viewpoint and examine the women who have led nations/empires and see if they set a godly example. Lady Jane Grey (9 Days Queen) is one of just a handful of godly women who through no effort of their own was placed in positions of power and she was beheaded! Also, queens weren't out campaigning while their husbands sat in the background appearing to be effeminate.

It is a pardonable sin..but why is it a big deal? It is the sin that started it all...

"And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat." - Genesis 3:6

The National (Presbyterian) Church of Scotland ordains openly gay ministers. This is an apostate church.

Your verse alleging a prohibition against a female President is historical narrative.

Queens have been ruling and reining in the UK for centuries. Are they (and any female Presidents) all damned?

Why is it that only women suffer the unpardonable sin when they lead or preach?

You appealed for a verse. A verse was provided. Now you have the decision point of submitting to the verse or kicking against it. Your decision has thus far been to kick against the verse and have moved on to "vast enterprises", "Victorian England", and such-like.

As a woman who desires to conform to the bible, feminisim is far from being a desire of mine. The bible clearly shows woman are not to have authority over men, why would we ever want to go against God's design? It's sad when women are leaving their role as a mother and pursuing a man's calling

Neofems posts to not even pretend to appeal to scripture, so by what arbitrary authority does she challenge what the Bible so plainly teaches? Listen to Matthew Henry, who breaks this Babel, commenting on 1 Cor. 11, which indeed most all churches ignore, i.e. the "inequality" of women to men.

"For the man was not made out of the woman, but the woman out of the man, v. 8. The man was first made, and made head of the creation here below, and therein the image of the divine dominion; and the woman was made out of the man, and shone with a reflection of his glory, being made superior to the other creatures here below, but in subjection to her husband, and deriving that honour from him out of whom she was made.
3. The woman was made for the man, to be his help-meet, and not the man for the woman. She was naturally, therefore, made subject to him, because made for him, for his use, and help, and comfort. **And she who was intended to be always in subjection to the man should do nothing, in Christian assemblies, that looks like an affectation of equality.**
4. She ought to have power on her head...that is, a veil, the token [symbol], not of her having the power or superiority, but under the power of her husband."

Presbyterian women in Scotland still wear hats.

Hey NeoFem,
In case you hadn't noticed, I am a woman... It might help you to look at the whole of Scripture instead of hunting for a specific verse to support your unbiblical view on a woman as president or a pastor in the pulpit. I invite you to visit my blog and read some of the articles I've written on Biblical womanhood and the ills of feminism to find answers to your questions: angelawittman.net.
