Godlessness has doomed Britain

A converted church in England.

Britain today has become one of the most godless societies on Earth. Its principle ‘religious’ exports today are thinkers who despise religion. From Richard Dawkins, who has compared religion to child abuse, to my friend Christopher Hitchens, who titled his 2007 book God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, the British have cornered the market on being anti-God – at least the Christian and Jewish varieties.

While 92 percent of Americans believe in God, in Britain only 35% do and, according to Britain’s National Center for Social Research, 43% say they have no religion. The percentage of those affiliated with the Church of England dropped from 40% in 1983 to 23% in 2009.

In truth, though, if Britain’s Christian tradition is dying out, the leaders of the faith have only themselves to blame. ...

Titus 1:10 KJV - For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.
One of themselves, [even] a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians [are] alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.
This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith

Ah, John UK, and of course what Martin was famous for, some of his commentary for,

Galatians 1
15 But when He who had set me apart, even from my mother's womb, and called me through His grace, was pleased
16 to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with flesh and blood,---NASB

Martin Luther wrote:
We also have come to the knowledge of the truth by the same kindness of God. I crucified Christ daily in my cloistered life, and blasphemed God by my wrong faith. Outwardly I kept myself chaste, poor, and obedient. I was much given to fasting, watching, praying, saying of masses, and the like. Yet under the cloak of my outward respectability I continually mistrusted, doubted, feared, hated, and blasphemed God. My righteousness was a filthy puddle. Satan loves such saints. They are his darlings, for they quickly destroy their body and soul by depriving them of the blessings of God's generous gifts.

I tell you I stood in awe of the pope's authority. To dissent from him I considered a crime worthy of eternal death....In comparison with these sanctimonious hypocrites of the papacy, publicans and harlots are not bad. They at least feel remorse.

Poor dab.

The darkness is deep
His sins are in a heap
On his back a burden of guilt
What did Bunyan write?
He came to a Cross
His burden fell off
He went on his way rejoicing!

No surprise to the Christian of course...

All that idolatry, heresy, works based religion and unBiblical practices demonstrates that they are prevented from knowing the truth.

1Cor 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, NOR IDOLATERS, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

Just look at the grouping in which we find the Roman Catholic IDOLATERS in!!

Anyone who lived before 1516 were saved the same way that anyone has been saved; even those who lived before Christ was crucified: The just have always lived by faith. From Abel, to Enoch, to Abraham, to Moses & Aaron, to David, to the prophets, to the apostles, to the early 1st century church, and on to the last of God's saints.
The just do live by Christ Jesus who is the Author and Finisher of faith, who has always been the Rock of salvation for all of God's people. From Alpha to Omega, the Beginning to the End.

Pauvre Martin,

All that religious effort, bashing himself about with a flagellator, suffering needlessly, trying to be holy, endless offices and masses, tormented in his mind because of his offenses, tied in to a Catholic Machine which could never save a single soul........BUT.....

PRAISE GOD......

The Lord opened his eyes through his word.......

concerning living by "faith alone".....

in Christ alone......

and he suddenly (in an instant) saw all his sins forgiven (in a moment) and that he had eternal life through faith (immediately), not by his own efforts but by simple trust in the Saviour.

The intellect will never conceive of this simple method of God. The proud heart will always seek to deserve salvation. The rich are too fat to go through the needle's eye. The mighty are too pompous to bow down before the Lord.

But God..........

Dear Jim Lincoln,

Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord & Savior, Jesus!

If one lived in A.D. 1516 (the year before Dr. Luther posted the 95 Theses -- he made many excellent points there, I might add), how was he saved since there was no trace of Sola Fide or Sola Scriptura?

Blessings to you and yours!

"Finally, does it look like a falling cause and a decaying School of theology when the very doctrines which are the glory of the Evangelical body, and which we are constantly accused of teaching too prominently and exclusively, are resorted to at last with avidity by members of other parties. Not a year passes over my head but I hear of such cases, and I have no doubt that my experience is that of many. I hear of people who have spent their lives and strength in the ranks of Ritualism and Broad Churchism eagerly grasping simple Evangelical truths in their last hours, and taking comfort in the very thing which they used to hold cheap and even despise. I hear of them, as they go down the valley of the shadow of death, casting aside all their old favourite tenets, and talking of nothing but the blood of Christ, the righteousness of Christ, the intercession of Christ, justification by faith, and all those precious cornerstones of our system which in former days they used to say we used to make too much of. On the other hand, I never heard of one single case of a true hearted Evangelical Churchman forsaking our principles in his last hour for Ritualism or Broad Churchism. Oh, no! The nearer men draw to the grave, the more they find out the value of simple Evangelical truth"(J.Ryle)

I can agree with that Jim. Anglicanism has always had its evangelicals in the midst, like Bishop Ryle, George Whitefield and John Wesley, who never came out; but the majority have been nominal Christians from its inception, and many of its leaders took on the work because of its lucrative provision rather than a desire after God.

In England, it has always been the nonconformists who have held up real Christianity, and who still hold aloft the flag of Justification by Faith Alone in Christ Alone. They have always believed in separation of church and state - to both which I heartily say: "Amen!"

Ah, my Catholic friend, haven't I warned you about Roman Catholic Tradition If it contradicts the Bible, it has to be a false tradition.

Leviticus 19
4 'Do not turn to idols or make for yourselves molten gods; I am the LORD your God.---NASB

You might study Catholic history and learn about East–West Schism for example, this Wikipedia article is hardly perfect, because the use of statues (even though the Orthodox use icons ) should have been mentioned, since that was a divisive issue and the article mentions Peter in Rome, and it's rather obvious he never was in Rome. However the article has some useful information.

One of the greatest problems, Anglicanism like Catholicism has never been Christian, and being the state church--a really bad idea--was always leading England away from Christianity. Many of the folks across the pond are descendents of the English Dissenters and would agree with this statement?

That whole nation went down with the Titanic when they gave themselves over to the lies of Darwin, and now the USA follows, how ironic it is that when they have fully given themselves over to the bankrupt Darwinian, Genocidal Abortionist, Marxist system that their whole country now goes physically bankrupt as well as a reward for their choice of sin.

Oh! You mean the version of the 10 Commandments that convienently for Catholics "erases" the 2nd Commandment against idolatry (which Jehovah says is an iniquity of those who hate Him) and attempts to compensate by dividing the 10th Commandment against coveting into two separate commandments against coveting.

Talk about somebody trying to be a friend of a child of God coming in with 'Doctor Augustine's' prescription to provoke the LORD with grieveous sin.

The Westminster Confession of Faith, Chapter V

Well Mike, I too noticed the contrasts in the verse and would say you hit the right button there.

But as for God bringing adversity as a result of ungodliness, and prosperity as a result of godliness, that may be true much of the time, but sometimes he reverses the usual and adversity may hit the godly very hard, so hard that it puzzles them and they say, "Why has this happened?"

To my mind anyway, this also is the problem when "natural disasters" occur. Is this God punishing the ungodly? Maybe, but not necessarily. God causes the sun to rise on the just and the unjust.

7. Jehovah is the Creator and Sustainer of the physical universe, and of the moral law as well. The evil he creates is the antithesis of peace. But since the opposite of peace is not sin or moral evil, it is obvious that physical evil, or the calamitous consequences of wrong-doing are here intended.

Good point.

There are several schools regarding how to divide the 10 Commandments.

The Catholic Church has adopted St. Augustine's version.

First, your king, Henry VIII, rebelled against the Catholic Church (Circa 16th Century) to become his own pope
The Roman Pope rebelled against God centuries before Henry's misdemeanours.
I notice you've left GOD out of the equation again!

The Reformation was ordained of God to return the church back to Bible law, precepts and doctrines.

The simple fact that the Roman Catholics break the commandments and worship graven images demonstrates that they are misguided, antiScripture and led by the antichrist.

Idolatry, maryolatry, the evil mass, relics and worship of dead sinners shows that the Roman Catholic 'church' is satanic and abominable.

WCF 25.6. "There is no other Head of the Church but the Lord Jesus Christ:a nor can the Pope of Rome, in any sense be head thereof; but is that Antichrist, that man of sin and son of perdition, that exalteth himself in the Church against Christ, and all that is called God.b"

a. Eph 1:22; Col 1:18.
b. Mat 23:8-10; 2 Thes 2:3-4, 8-9; Rev 13:6.

The best advice anyone can give you is leave the Roman heresy and go to a real church.
