Ayn Rand, novelist and conservative political thinker, has an impassioned following among some of today’s Republicans. They embrace her defense of laissez-faire capitalism and individualism. In many respects, she is the godmother of all libertarians. What some put aside, however, is the inconvenient fact that she was also an outspoken atheist.
Faith is not a curse. How can it get in the way of reason, when we go to Him for better understanding? Reason doesn't help come to terms with anything. Prayer does!
'Democratic political message firm says, Ryan's budget cuts are not Christian. And what's been going on for decades is this unholy alliance between Christians, libertarians, and big business.'
It never ceases to amaze me all the different definitions of what constitutes Christianity in the Media. But that can hardly be suprising when we can't get the visible Church clearly identified among those who profess the fundamentals of the doctrine of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ, being the chief corner stone. Is it any wonder the Church at this time is being built in obsurity? Yet even so, the gates of hell will not prevail against her, for she is kept by the power of God.
Rufus wrote: Atlas Shrugged was a good book if ones measurement is based on entertaining, thought-provoking, prophetic in many ways, value. It was a wicked book from Hell if one measures its proximity to being pro-christ or anti-christ. "Faith is the worst curse of mankind, as the exact antithesis and enemy of thought." - Ayn Rand She speaks much of faith being contrary to reason. She is in much error for faith is not without reason but faith is based on evidence, is based on the sure word of prophecy, it is based on the pre-scientific foreknowledge of God, it is every bit about reason and it is unreasonable to be contrary to the one who created the creature. It is unreasonable not to bow to His greatness and receive His mercies. "Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God." - Job 13:3
"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." - Isaiah 1:18

Thank you Rufus. Yes, Ayn Rand had no concept of biblical faith and reason and no concept of biblical economics. My faith is not blind or unreasonable, because I know whom my faith is in and I trust fully in what He has said and promised. Her faith in mankind was blind and unreasonable. Good comment!

I liked 'Atlas Shrugged' the novel, and I've never seen the movie. I do agree with many parts of her philosophy most notably that we shouldn't depend on the government to redistribute the wealth. She also addresses what is becoming a real concern in today's America. That is providing people with money based on what they need rather than what they do. In the novel, individuals and companies are taxed and regulated so much that they are no better off for their ideas and hard work than the guy who sits at home trying to "find himself". Eventually, this leads to a creative vaccum and financial collapse. In this particular novel, from what I remember, organized religion is what she was against, and I think the church was in league with the politicos, also trying to get their share of the wealth. It's a loooong book, but I would reccomend it if you like distopia sci-fi type stories with a 1940s feel to it.
Anyway, I like parts of her philosophy and Atlas Shrugged was a good book. Her personal life, especially the athiesim and affairs, are things I would choose not to emulate.
