Apocalypse believers shocked after appointed hour passes
They spent months warning the world of the apocalypse, some giving away earthly belongings or draining their savings accounts. And so they waited, vigilantly, on Saturday for the appointed hour to arrive.

When 6 p.m. came and went across the continental U.S. and various spots around the globe, and no extraordinary cataclysm occurred, some believers expressed confusion, while others reassured each of their faith. Still, some others took it in stride.

I sincerely hope you will stick around and think through all these issues. For example, did you know that after he became a Christian the amazing apostle Paul regarded himself as the chief of sinners? But before his conversion, he regarded himself as highly spiritual, with pedigree, law-keeping etc etc. But when the Holy Spirit opened his mind and heart to the reality of truth, all that he regarded as profitable, quickly became described as "dung". (Philippians 3:4-9)

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
1 Timothy 1:15-16 KJV

"Life everlasting"? How?

"Believe on him."

The publican in the new testament is well worth the study, and will show you whom God receives. (Luke 18:9-14)

Cazares, Cazares, Cazares, my friend:

Ecclesiastes 7:20

"For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not."

Cazares, Cazares, do you consider yourself,
an unjust man?

If you don't consider yourself an unjust man, would you please explain to us why you consider yourself a just man.

Cazares, I just wanted to encourage you to look at what Christ meant when he said, "it is finished".

Anyone who takes that to mean they have license to sin........is not His.

Man you are really rambling now. Just like the ramblers who rambled at Paul when he preached the doctrines of grace and free justification by faith alone in Christ alone. Observe:
Romans 6:1-4 KJV
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ.
The gospel of free grace is not opposed to "works", it encourages "works". But please note, that if any rely on their OWN works to have value in getting them to heaven, they are certainly LOST and WILL perish. They actually call God a liar.
I don't rely on my own works, but maybe you are right...I am lost and will perish...

I know about grace and free justification.

and about encouraging works...if there is no faith, how can there be works? Faith, not grace.

I'm done.. It seems that we have differences as all denominations in the western and eastern. Be blessed brother and I will continue to pray to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Love Ya!

Cazares, you seem to miss the point I made earlier, so I will rephrase it and hope that works.

Paraphrasing what you said:

"I hope that in God's eyes, my stature - accomplished by the renewing of my mind and conformity to the character of Christ - will be of sufficient value to enable me to enter the kingdom of heaven."

Now then, Cazares. You have a false hope.

You also misinterpret the verse you quoted. It is "be transformed" (passive) not "transform yourself" (active). It is a work which God does in his saints, not something we "achieve".

But you will not grasp any of this until you are born again of the Spirit of God. This Spirit will teach you first and foremost that you are a sinner who can accomplish nothing to get yourself into heaven and nothing to save yourself from hell fire. He will also show you that Christ (as Bro Lurker helpfully said) has done all that is necessary for our salvation. We simply call out to God as a beggar deserving nothing, but receiving everything.

To John...

If I say to renew my mind by the word of God is works? That being conformed into His image is works? How can that be,if the word of God tells us to renew our minds and be transformed..

Works is when we try to do something for God when actually we can't even breath by ourselves much more do things for Him and say, "we did this for God.". I let Christ work through me accomplish what Christ needs to accomplish, but I decrease so He can increase through me.....that is not works.

Not to belabor John's excellent comments but I have also sensed a doubt in your comments. Perhaps it was an unfortunate slip of the fingers on the keyboard but you need to ask yourself what, exactly, it is that you "hope.... may be enough".

Surely you don't question Jesus when He said "It is finished." The only possibility remaining is doubt in yourself.... either in your knowledge of what God requires of you to have a good stsnding before Him or in your worthiness to receive so great salvation.

If it is the former (doubt for lack of knowledge) please read 1 John 3:19-24. If it is the latter (doubt of your worthiness) see Luke 18:9-14 for not one of us is worthy.

God bless.

Cazares,

Please read your own words which I quoted above. Are you serious about that?

If yes, then I must say that you are seeking to walk the road of "works" salvation. It happens like this: You keep the entire law of God every minute of your entire life, blameless and sinless till the day you die (just as Jesus did) and God will receive you into his kingdom. That is called "salvation by works" and you must keep the Ten Commandments perfectly. "The wages of sin is death..." so that if you have broken just one of the commandments once, you are now "dead" in the spiritual sense, and separated from God.

This is why you vainly imagine that salvation is something you accomplish, hence your words, "may be enough....".

What actually IS enough? I tell you, it is the perfect righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is God manifest in the flesh, who was sinless in his human life, who laid down his life for sinners, who took again his life and returned to heaven, from where he calls men to TRUST HIM, and HIM ONLY.

Whew do I ever have a lot of learning and growing to do.

Your posts have caught my attention. I want to help you and I believe others here on SermonAudio do as well. Let me say this for you, myself and anyone else it may benefit.

One of the best things in helping us discern truth from error is walking in the love of God towards others, that we might walk in the light as God Himself is in the light. Now please understand we are not walking in love if we pretend people are different than they really are.

For example I would NOT be walking in love towards a Muslim or Hindu if I told them they were on their way to heaven if they were sincere in their beliefs, nor one saved if I said wasn't.

IMHO to truly love others we must seek the heart of God towards them. He knows them as they truly are. He can lead us to pray and intercede for them in what they truly need of His mercy and grace. And only He can shed abroad in our hearts the love of God by the Holy Spirit.

Something that is a great blessing to is a brief video taken from Paris Reidhead's (he is on SA) message So Great Salvation on YouTube titled: Come and He Will Set You Free.

Please to watch it, it will be a blessing to you.

To John UK Whales....

Thank you for your words and kindness. You have shown that you stand strong in your belief. I know Christ died as me on the cross of calvary and has forgiven me of every sin as I come to repentance. I thank you for the wisdom you have given me. I believe that God will reveal false prophets as the one in Florida that he is called the second coming. Christ comes to me everyday in different brothers and sisters. I was hoping that the view of false prophets would be known through the Holy Spirit, not by what our carnal flesh is attracted to. I am not walking to win a race against my fellow brothers in Christ, but a race of my salvation through the virtue of my Lord Jesus Christ. I hope that as I stand in the eyes of God, the stature that is achieved by the renewing of themind and being conformed in Him,may be enough to enter into His kingdom. I Love you brother and I apologize if I caused you to err which it wasn't my intentions. My intentions were that God has from the beginning dealt and destroyed false prophets. That if it is of God, it shall be revealed.

I Guess every Christian will languish in error and take it to their graves.
I don't hate you for this at all!

A system does not save, Christ saves. A church does not save. A nation does not save. Christ already has taken the punishment for your sins.

It is easy to compare people, and many of us will come short, but when we realize how we have been forgiven much, then we can repent and follow Him, who is perfect.

If your foundation is strong, truth will fall in line. It is the work of the Holy Spirit and it does have to be lived---yes you will see evidence, the fruit of the Spirit, but these things are not the root. The rootis Christ. And yes, he did predestine this! Christ is from the beginning.

There are disagreements--in the end it is HIs mercy and lovingkindness in truth that remains.

Cazares, your behaviour is very very similar to the band of Camping followers we had on here about six months ago. They too kept jumping about and would not sensibly discuss any issue.

I suggest that we stick to what EVERY Christian believes and teaches, namely, the requirement of God for every person who desires to be saved and have a certain hope of eternal life. This is the crucial issue. You have already expressed an uncertainty about your own standing before God, and it would be a great wisdom to listen to those who would try to help you, rather than flap about like Harold Camping.

We do lift them up in prayer. But why is it that a subject that is so clearly, directly, and explicitly dealt with is a stumbling block? I mean no less an authority then the Messiach himself, the very one who's return we are talking about, say's DO NOT SET DATES! why then do we go against so clear an injunction and say our "hopes are dashed"? God has left us a treasure-trove, a goldmine of a book.
It's really easy: "Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go -Joshua 1:7
In other words, DON'T ADD OR TAKE AWAY FROM IT!! Don't go looking for the Mayan calender, the pope, holy laughter, or a JW jesus in there. Because you'll find it. If you want to be deluded, God will oblige you.

It is very important to be well grounded in His Word. Read the WHOLE bible prayerfully & humbly. We're at war, "Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law.."
