It was an era that defined a generation. The Great Depression marked the bitter and abrupt end to the post-World War 1 bubble that left America giddy with promise in the 1920s. Near the end of the 1930s the country was beginning to recover from the crash, but many in small towns and rural areas were still poverty-stricken. These rare photographs are some of the few documenting those iconic years in colour. The photographs and captions are the property of the Library of Congress and were included in a 2006 exhibit Bound for Glory: America in Color. The images, by photographers of the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information, shed a bleak new light on a world now gone with the wind....

It would appear that this downward spiral was been spiraling, but not without some control historically in the USA. If you look at the faces of these who had it so much 'better' it is hard for me to believe, it was exactly as we want to see it. The working women seemed happier then the agrarian family, and that should not be the case if they had to abandon their first sphere of duty closer to home. The happiest children were eating and the others seemed as happy as their parents. It seems the question to ask is since the down hill spiral continues in the said nation 1. Why is it so? And 2. What should the visible Church do about it since they are the ones holding back judgment to some degree (or not)?

As lazy as people are today, I see much of it as a way of adjusting to this brave new world, where powers that be would rather the public funds dole out welfare money, controlling the family and the international markets, agencies that should be protecting private ownership and growing of foods are instead carrying out Agenda 21, the moving of private property and the use of all foods/industry in the hands of the few.
One of the things that I learned as characteristic of the Comm movement in Russia was that farmers couldn't keep their own crops and were demoralized.
Now we see an Amish man's healthy milk business taken, pounds and pounds of cheese destroyed, farmers sued for the cross-contamination of GMO (private owned) seed and so forth.
The freedom of the people is in its ability to grow food in times of economic downturn.
We can't escape this reality, which is upon us. After all, God did give us the seeds of the earth for health. No sun, no son, the state will feed you!
