Piper: God Has Mixed Emotions on Osama bin Laden's Death
Is God glad that Osama bin Laden is dead? Prominent evangelical pastor John Piper says yes and no.

God’s emotions, like humans, are complex and not always black and white as some portray them to be, writes Piper, founder of the ministry Desiring God, on the group’s blog this week. It is true that He delights in the death of the wicked, but at the same time death does not bring God pleasure.

Citing Ezekiel 18:23, 32, Piper, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, points out that the Bible records, “I do not pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live.” ...

The article heading refers to God as having quote, "mixed emotions."
I very much doubt whether God ever has that kind of experience.
But in addition I don't think that this is what Piper has suggested, since he does not use the term in this article anyway.
I had similar thoughts. It's not a very fair title.

Deuteronomy 28:63 (AV)
And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought...
The key verbs "destroy" and "rejoice" in the Hebrew אבד (abad) and שוש (suws), respectively defined, perish, die, exterminate, kill, put to death...; joy, glad, rejoice, delight. In context, this passage speaks to His covenant, chosen people. Not saying that Piper is wrong, for his quote of Scripture is correct. But this passage ought to give us pause. I, however, would never compare the inherently finite, corrupt, mind of mankind to that of Almighty God... I fear Him too much to make such a statement, and Scripture refutes such a notion in multiple passages. But, then again, Mr. Piper is much more learned and experienced in Scripture than I.
I cannot agree with you closing statement although I agree with what preceded it. A man can have intellectual gifts but that is not what makes him right, what makes him true and faithful is the Spirit of Truth and men without His influence are right and wrong at the same time.
