King James Version of Bible turns 400 Monday
On Monday, the world celebrates the 400th anniversary of that Bible, revered not only as a religious work but also as a literary masterpiece that has shaped language, culture and politics.

To some, the King James Version remains beautiful, poetic and powerful, the only version worthy of reading aloud. To others, it's inaccessible, stodgy and outdated.

Andrews says he falls squarely in the first camp.

"It's the only thing we use. We believe that it's the word of God for English-speaking people," he said, adding with a laugh: "We're old sticks-in-the-mud like that." ...

"In 1898, Eberhard Nestle published the Nestle Greek New Testament, which underlies the modern versions. He followed the Hort and Westcott New Greek Text used for the English Revised Version and three other editions of the 1800s. In 1950, Kurt Aland assumed ownership and the Nestle Text became the Nestle/Aland Text. The editing committee was comprised of Kurt Aland and Matthew Black, who were unbelievers, Roman Catholic Cardinal Carlo M. Martini and two apostates, Bruce Metzger and Alan Wikgren. 54. Again, the question arises concerning the qualifications of those who translate or edit Godā€™s Word. History provides clear evidence that the divinely inspired Word of God was often altered by men who received their inspiration from a source other than God.

The Preface to the New American Standard Bible, (NASB) published in 1963, states that, ā€œIn most instances the 23rd edition of the Nestle Greek New Testament was followed.ā€

And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
Matthew 13:10-17 KJV

Do you understand this, Jim?

Oh, John...
"In fact, if one uses the same logic as the KJVO proponents, and cites selected passages which seem to teach salvation by works, one could even argue that it is the KJV itself which distorts the doctrine of salvation. Remember that the KJV has been the favorite Bible of new religions and cults, like Mormonism, that promote salvation by works. Why? Because in many places the KJV verses are less clear than the reliable modern versions." The Conflict Over Different Bible Versionsā€“Part Five.

Where do you guys pick up such misinformed opinions? Riplinger and Ruckman, but then again, where many KJVO types are 50 cents short of a dollar, you don't have to a doctorate to know that--

I fear that Drs. Ankerberg & Weldon are also five pee short of a pound if they cannot discern the strategy of modern versionists being to introduce slowly a gospel of works salvation. And why do they want to do that? Because they are all working for the devil, that's why. And the devil don't want anyone to get saved.

Isn't it great that Reformed Church and Presbyterians support the ESV or NASB
Drs. Ankerberg & Weldon wrote:
The truth is that not one of the Roman Catholic doctrines cited by Riplinger can be objectively and fairly proven to be taught by the NIV, NKJV, NASB, etc. Also, why would conservative Protestants who produced the NASB and the NIV have any desire to produce a Bible containing Catholic doctrines? In fact, there is little difference in word translation between official Catholic Bibles (JB/NAB, etc.) and the KJV. It is how theologians misinterpret those words that cause denominational differences.
excerpt from, The Conflict Over Different Bible Versionsā€“Part Five

Probably a major problem with the AV is that it isn't in contemporary English.

I think Mike is a great guy.
But like Wesley he has this problem (Arminian) with God's sovereignty which Whitefield tried to solve with good Biblical Calvinism.

As for the current point "Roman Catholic views in the NASB, NIV and modern versions"

The post below highlights just two of the errors used in the NASB/NIV which contribute to the RCC hypothesis on Mary, and over time could fabricate their fallacies in others. If you add all the "seeds" of error passed on to the modern versions by the erroneous Westcott and Hort/Vaticanus text, then the sum effect may be the danger of the spread of popish religious philosophy. (A little leaven)???
W&H debased the Greek text together with the KJV of the Word of God and consequently paved the way to the spurious modern version counterfeit.

[ [1) A stretch. Mary was a woman, nothing more, and that's obvious in the NASB verse(her) and context.
2) RC's hold Mary ever virgin because they DON'T believe what their bible says to the contrary.

Roman Catholic views reflected in the NASB and NIV?..

NASB - "And coming in, he said to her, ā€œGreetings, favored one! The Lord is with you." (Luke 1:28)
1) # Calling Mary a woman isn't convenient to hailing her as being more than a human being.

KJV - "And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS." (Matthew 1:25)
NIV - "But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus. (Matthew 1:25)
2) # Stating "firstborn" would imply that Mary had other sons, which isn't convenient to keeping her a virgin all of her life.

Who publishes the NIV and NASB and their sibling version? It's Zondervan, owned by Harper Collins Publishers, which is owned by News Corp, which in turn is owned by Rupert Murdoch, the Catholic media mogul who is very close to the Vatican.

Are Roman Catholic views reflected in the NASB and NIV? Consider the following:

KJV "And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. (Luke 1:28)

NASB - "And coming in, he said to her, ā€œGreetings, favored one! The Lord is with you." (Luke 1:28)

# Calling Mary a woman isn't convenient to hailing her as being more than a human being.

KJV - "And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS." (Matthew 1:25)

NIV - "But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus. (Matthew 1:25)

# Stating "firstborn" would imply that Mary had other sons, which isn't convenient to keeping her a virgin all of her life.

Can you see how subtle Satan is with these changes?

Among the other books that Murdoch publishes through Harper Collins, which owns Zondervan, is The Satanic Bible, used by those who worship Satan.

A better chance???!!!

No wonder your Christianity is so vague and uncertain Jim, seeing as you're not sure about God's word anymore. Flee for your very life from these so-called scholars who twist the minds of the unwary.

"If you scan the footnotes of any authoritative book on the text of the New Testament, the odds are you're going to see Metzger cited time after time. His books are mandatory reading in universities and seminaries around the world. He is held in the highest regard by scholars from across a wide range of theological beliefs."

Mandatory reading in "universities" and "seminaries"!!!

Held in "the highest regard" by "scholars" from across a "wide range" of theological "beliefs".

Ever seen a Bible Seminary which actually produces men of faith? Men who hold a Bible in their hand and say, "This is the word of God."

Satan, I repeat, Satan, has already won the battle to destroy upcoming young preacher boys, by infiltrating all the Bible colleges.

And it's thank to devil's advocates like Metzger.

John UK, Bruce Metzger, now with the Lord--and he has a better chance of it than this man, The Influence of An Anglican Archbishop on the KJV. Yes, thankfully, most of the modern versions have gotten rid of the Romish influence, q.v., Is the King James Version a ā€˜Roman Catholic Bibleā€™?

Then John U.K., you should find the oldest Greek and Hebrew texts and make people read those! But in any event the modern versions do use better texts, anyway, and are in contemporary English. You still need to read this John, Comparing Bible Translations. Yes, John except for a minority the AV has also been dumped in Britain, unless you have statistics that show that ESV and other modern versions aren't doing as well?

Yes, Dopey, we know the AV Translators lifted material from the Douay-Rheims Bible, even if they did bad mouth the Romish Church. The Romish Church had the good sense to retire the DR Bible and AV should have been retired more than a century ago.
