Canada's opposition parties toppled the ruling Conservative minority government on Friday in a historic parliamentary finding of contempt, which doubled as a vote of no confidence and set the stage for the country's fourth national election in seven years.
Recent polling data suggest that the Conservatives, led by Stephen Harper, are in striking distance of a majority this time around, but not quite there yet. That makes the campaign, which kicks off over the weekend and lasts just over a month, one of the most important races in years.
Voters went into the previous two campaigns, in 2006 and 2008, with relatively clear preferences, analysts said. This time around, a larger-than-usual bloc of undecided voters could swing the polls either way....
