Creationist: Old earth-young earth debate active
The president and CEO of Answers in Genesis says the biggest obstacle today for his organization is not the issue of evolution vs. creation, but the "old earth vs. young earth" debate.

"If you think about it, it's everywhere," says Ken Ham. "If you go to to zoos, you will see 'millions of years.' If you turn on television, you'll hear 'millions of years' much more than you hear evolution."

Ham says when secular media comes to the Creation Museum, they usually do not ask him questions about evolution. Instead, they ask Ham to explain why he believes in a young earth and why he says dinosaurs lived with people. ...

Your staff member is absolutly right Jim. We should not be indifferent to the debate. Theistic evolotion is still evolution and cannot be reconcilled with the scripture. It also affects the biblical teaching of Sin, Death, and Salvation.

Just figured I'd give credit where credit was due.

Yeah.

The Framework view of Creation is very strong in our denomination, especially among many of our more scholarly members who find it to be very appealing.

I personally had never heard of nor imagined anything other than the 6-day Biblical view of creation until the late 1980s, when Dr. Hugh Ross visited the conservative evangelical Bible church I was attending at the time. What struck me was, at the time, he seemed to assert that the Noaic flood was LOCAL and not world-wide (!). I was confused but many in the same audience seemed to be very impressed with Dr. Ross's reasonings.

From then on I've been getting this vibe that "smarter" Christians acknowledge an old earth while the "dumber" Christians still believe in that old 6-day nonsense which I still hold to.

Very troubling.

If we simply read the Genesis account in a literal manner, then it is impossible to say the earth is billions of years old. Nothing in scripture is clearer than this and if we can't handle this simple truth, then what can we handle. Even those like Ankerberg, one of our supposed apologists, are teaching the bible "literally" teaches an old earth. MacArthur did a fairly good series on this called "The Battle for the beginning" that shows the spiritual ramifications of this line of reasoning, or should I say lack of reasoning.
