A dispute over leadership at a Henderson County church has turned from angry words to fist fights.
About 30 police officers from five agencies were called to break up fights Sunday at Greater New Zion Baptist Church in Fletcher.
Keith Knox Jr., 29, a lifelong member of Greater Mount Zion, said some church members want new leadership, someone who’s more open to a modern approach. He said the leadership had asked Ray to retire but he declined, and he said some members were concerned about the manner in which funds were sometimes disbursed from the church....
A more modern church, Q What does that mean!! A modern church is that a church where there is rock and roll, Christian contemporary music, abandoning of the old hymns of the faith, throwing out the Authorised version, there are many things that could be , but it is not a church. When the board runs the church, when people start saying I don't what that riffraff in here. When they stop going into the highways and hedges and compel sinners to come in, 2 Tim 4:3-4 comes into effect. What next!!
What Type Of "Baptist" Church Is Greater New Mount Zion Baptist Church In Fletcher Anyway ?
There Are Multitude Of "Baptist" Churches That Use & Abuse The Historic "Baptist" Name & Title !
For There To Be "A dispute over leadership at a Henderson County ("Baptist") church...[turning] from angry words to fist fights" Is A Very, Very Serious Ecclesiastical Matter !
A Matter Which Should've Been Peacefully Resolved Within Their Membership--Instead Of Spilling Over & Involving "Those Who Are Without" The "Church"; That Is The Civil, Political & Governmental Authorities: In This Case 30 Police Officers From Five (Law Enforcement) Agencies !
Fist Fights In ANY "Church", Even ILLEGITIMATE "Churches"--Like ROMAN CATHOLIC "Churches"--Should NEVER EVER Even Be Mentioned In The Local Press & Media Or Named In The World; Let Alone "Churches":
"But Fornication, And All Uncleaness, Or Covetousness, (Or 'Brawlers' [Titus 3:2]), Let It NOT BE ONCE NAMED AMONG YOU, AS BECOMETH SAINTS;" EPHESIANS 5:3
I Must Confess That Independent Baptist Church "Business Meetings" Can Get A Little "Vocal" At Times.
**Like When Br. Bob Boley, At Calvary Baptist Church, Geneva, IL; Stammered Angrily Out Of A Wednesday Night Business Meeting: Over A "Financial Transaction" He Thought Was Wrong.
Yes, something to think about, Jessica, and I would add,
2 Thessalonians 3 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example, because we did not act in an undisciplined manner among you,
1 Timothy 3 2 An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, uncontentious, free from the love of money.---NASB
It is not only the church leaders to show good behaviors but the rest of congregation as well.
Galatians 5:14-16 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Ephesians 4:31, 32 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
1 John 3:14-16 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
The problem here is not ignorance, but refusing to abide by church rules (in this case, a congregational vote). Whether Baptist or Presby, it's the same sad, old story: practical antinomianism.
"Christian" deviousness knows no bounds. I remember the pastor who called for a congregational vote to suspend a just-ratified constitution to get the merger he wanted. He would've been outraged if Congress pulled a stunt like that, for almost every Sunday, he whined about the Supreme Court.
It's so sad to hear of things like this. These ppl in that church are going to be affected by this for a long time. We should pray for Henderson County church and members ! May god give them all wisdom.
