Thieves in Britain are using Google Earth to target lead roofs on Church of England buildings to sell on the lucrative metals market, a Church spokesman said.
About 8,000 churches have made insurance claims for lead theft worth about 23 million pounds during the past three years, the Church's estate commissioner Tony Baldry said during a debate in Westminster Hall.
In many cases, churches have replaced their roofs only to be targeted again, in one case 14 times.
Many of the Church of England's 16,000 churches are "listed," which provides planning protection for buildings of historical value, and date back hundreds of years....

Hey bro! Look! Posting at last!
Bethany?
And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. Mark 14:3 KJV
If Simon the leper was running the shop, I may just have made it, and taken some worshipful ointment for Jesus. But alas, I couldna face it today bro; so I've had a really peaceful and restful Lord's Day.

Ha!
But you'll have to catch him first, and you know what slippery customers these Roman Catholics are. Still, I've more hope for him than the other "chappy" who seems to be splitting.

Presby wrote: Don't know if it would help you John. But have you tried Spamhaus's "Blocklist Removal Centre"?? Blocklist Removal Centre
Thank you bro. There should be somewhere on that site to request removal, but I spent ages on it the other day and could not for the life of me see how to do it. But if anyone can remove the block, SpamHaus should be able. I don't want to continue after my 3 day free trial; it slows the system down a little, and costs about a hundred dollars a year, or cheaper if you pay for two or three years. Good software though, if you need it.

I have a three day free trial of IP proxy address something or other, and this is allowing me to post at last. My IP is blacklisted by SpamHaus....yuk!
Ah weel, och aye, at least I know the problem now. Anyone know anyone at SpamHaus who can get them to set me free of criminal intent?

John Yurich Thanks for the opportunity of a comment.
You truly seem(?) to have a problem with your hearing. One of the greatest evidences of love for another is to tell them when they are wrong and oppose them in their sin. The Word of God is full of examples of God Himself doing this, for example sending Jonah to the Ninevah.
This is something quite different from seeking to destroy (sometimes slaughter) those one hates, such as the RCC did in the Inquisition.
btw it is NOT and in NO WAY perfectly ok for you to profess faith in Jesus Christ and continue in the RCC, something I have to think if you, or anyone else for that matter has no problem understanding if they have a heart after God (to obey Him, NOT use Him) and listens to what He says to us in the Bible.

No John! We BIBLICAL Protestants "obey" the Bible - Not like the Anglicans and Roman Catholics who are selective when it comes to obedience of God's Law and precepts.
This is a verse from the Bible, and these verses come from what is called the Ten Commandments which were written personally by God Himself....
Exodus 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.
So you see Biblical Protestants are the Christians who DO follow and obey Scripture.
Incidentally another place your RCC does not obey God is on idolatry because they worship graven images. But God states.... Exod 20: 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them:.....
So John you really are attending a "church" which belongs more to Satan - Than to the Lord!!

It probably depends on whether it was moveable or not but I don't really know. English Heritage have helped preserve some outstanding examples of non-conformist chapels including the interior woodwork, boxed pews, wineglass pulpits etc.
If you wish to know more, English Heritage would be a good place to start research.
To harmonize Guinness's point with Dusty's: take the lead down, store it, & use a cheap equivalent until (if ever) commodity prices make theft less likely. I don't know if this is practical. Otherwise, to enforce the law, they'll have to appoint a sexton or constable to keep watch all week! Or maybe they should use more of those hated British security cameras.
Offhand, I don't know why lead is in such demand (other than for bullets), since it's deprecated for its toxicity in many uses, like electrical solder.
To digress a bit, military bullets must be full metal jacketed to comply with the Hague Convention. They are less destructive[!] this way.

Dusty wrote: "In many cases, churches have replaced their roofs only to be targeted again, in one case 14 times" Why don't these churches use alternative materials to lead, such as Ubiflex or other plastic materials for roofing?
