'Emerging Church': Should One Really Worship in a Bar?
Spending Sunday mornings in a bar sounds like an activity for those running from God. For this small group in a watering hole in Twin Harbors, about 160 miles northeast of Minneapolis, it’s about chasing God. It’s one unconventional place of worship around the country fostered by an evangelical movement known as “the emerging church.”
“I feel closer to God here than I do at a conventional church,” said Nelson, 56, a lifelong churchgoer who until recently could be found every Sunday morning in the pews at First Baptist Church nearby. “Jesus said we’re supposed to be a light to the world. What better place to do that than at a bar?”...
Drunks drink according to scripture there will be no drunkards in heaven . It also warns us to be sober but if anyone thinks they can love the world or the things of the world and still be ok with God then there is going to be a big surprise for you when you stand before Christ When does come out from among them and be separate apply ?
as Sunday worship is not endorsed or supported by Jesus in the bible it matters not that these people conduct church in a bar . If God has called anyone to come to him He will use whatever will reach them.it is up to each person to hear and respond to gods call.the holy spirit will guide them to the best place to hear the full gospel message preached and lived.
Disclaimer: I do not advocate the drinking of alcohol, nor do I attend drinking establishments. But I do know that God brings people to Himself, and sometimes that happens to be while they are in a bar. I believe God is close to everyone of us, even when we don't make the best choices. Jesus died on the cross to save sinners, and spent time with prostitutes and all types of sinners because He loved them. Jesus loves us, and will seek to find and save us no matter where we happen to be at the time! God bless!
At best, this is confusing Evangalism with the worship of the Lord conducted in a church setting. Jesus indeed went to people to reach them, but he did not replace going to the synagouge with having a service in a house of prostution. The woman caught in adultry did not stay in that industry. Pauls admonition regarding Abiding where you are called does have it's limits.
I was saved out of the whole party scene. I also went with others back into the clubs to evangalise. (There are numerous problems with that as well)Yet I knew that the Christian life was a life of separation.
The Emergent folks I know that are trying this so called church experience, are people who really still love this world's system. They just want God's approval to do what they really want.
Remember; this is the movement that says that "Today's generation or smarter and more spiritually in tune than any other that has ever come before"
1 Corinthians 7:17-20 But as God has distributed to each one, as the Lord has called each one, so let him walk. And so I ordain in all the churches. Was anyone called while circumcised? Let him not become uncircumcised. Was anyone called while uncircumcised? Let him not be circumcised. Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters. Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called.
If this man was called while being a bartender, then maybe that is his calling? If God is using him to reach people who would not step foot in a conventional Church, maybe this is God's doing?
Matthew 9:10-12 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
I personally am not interested in attending, but God sent His Son The Lord Jesus Christ to die for sinners. And therefore: If He is reaching sinners where they are, I will rejoice.
Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was los

Lots of people already do this - and not only on sundays. They even find their own particular brand of 'spirit' to take them away from the struggles of life. They are sad people who are reprobate and heading for damnation.
Well I see one of the recommended sermons comes right out and calls the emerging church a heresy -- which is. Just to add to the sermon count: Satan's Counterfeiting of Christianity
Colossians 2 16 Therefore let no one act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day-- 17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. 18 Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast to the head, from whom the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is from God. 20 If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, 21 "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!" 22 (which all refer to things destined to perish with the using)-- in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men?---NASB
